"On Saturday the 30th of December, 2006 Mr. Samuel Whippy married Ms. Ateca Bainimarama at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva. The wedding reception was held at the Royal Suva Yacht Club. John Whippy a relative of the groom attended the reception. Francis Bulewa Kean, Commander of the Fiji Naval Forces and uncle to the bride joined the celebration. During the course of the evening several fights broke out between guests. The deceased was involved in some of those fights. He was drunk. At about 2.00am John Whippy left the Yacht Club with Peter and Samuel Whippy. They talked. The groom bade them farewell. Peter went to get a taxi to take both him and John home. When the taxi pulled up Peter sat in the back seat and he told John Whippy to get into the car. As John Whippy was assisted to the taxi he was in an ugly drunken mood. I accept he used vulgar language that provoked Mr. Kean into firmly telling him to mind his language and go home. In his drunkenness the deceased ignored this direction and kept up his belligerent tirade.  Francis Kean  then left the Suva Yacht Club and ran towards Mr. John Whippy yelling in Fijian, "Stop that taxi." The accused then came up to John Whippy and punched him three times in the face. John Whippy first hit his head against the taxi light then fell heavily to the ground on his back. While he was lying on the ground  Francis Kean  kicked him on the chest. The accused was dragged away by an unidentified woman but returned to kick John Whippy’s head. Asaeli Duvusole intervened and grabbed the accused warning him to do no more harm. John Whippy lay unmoving by the side of the taxi. A Corporal of the Fiji Military Forces checked his pulse he could find none. John Whippy was lifted into the taxi and quickly taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital. Doctor Ashika Lata Sen saw John at 1.46am. He did not have either a pulse or cardiac rhythm and he was not breathing. Despite her best efforts to resuscitate him John Whippy did not revive. He was pronounced dead at 2.20am on 31st December 2006. Mr. Kean, John Whippy’s life was precious and its value should not be underestimated. There must be exceptional circumstances before the court can suspend a term of imprisonment. I have searched for those circumstances in your case but can find none. An immediate prison sentence must be imposed. You are sentenced to
eighteen (18) months in jail."

ANOTHER TRUTH FOR FIJI: WHERE ARE THE FIJIAN NAVY SHIPS?

Picture
Many learned folks claim that Fiji does not need a navy for it has not done much good for Fiji besides burdening the nation with salaries for idle sailors. They claim that the Fijian navy lost its mana when Commodore Bainimarama committed treason in 2000 by ordering the elite CRW soldiers into parliament, with George Speight, to overthrow the democratically elected Chaudhry Government.

In addition, the navy was again used to commit Bainimarama's second coup in 2000, when on a navy ship, he overthrew the Commander in Chief of the Fiji Military and the then President, Ratu Sir KKT Mara.  After Speight and his group were arrested some were tortured on board a Fiji navy ship as they were being transported to Nukulau island where they were to be incarcerated.

The Fiji navy, in an act that can only be described as childish and stupid, destroyed navigation beacons at Minerva Reef. The beacons had been installed to guide ships and yachts to safety. Then the Fiji navy boats, like their Commander Bainimarama, ran like frighten girls when confronted by the Tongan Navy at Minerva Reef,  approximately 1500 kilometers north of Auckland.  But when the nation needs them in times of a natural disaster, like the recent cyclone Winston, the navy ships are nowhere to be seen. Unable to leave their cots as they have no fuel?!  So whats the use of having a navy in Fiji?

Being in charge of war machines
carries an enormous responsibility and the Fiji navy, under Bainimarama's dictatorship, has shown that it is incapable of such responsibility. It has become part of Bainimarama's personal army of thugs who carry out his intimidation and torture of Fijian citizens.  Therefore, any idea of replacing the Fiji navy's 20 year old Australian patrol boats and an even older Israeli boat comes at a high risk.  Bainimarama has proven that the boats can easily be used against Tonga to reassert itself over Minerva Reef or to carryout torture and beatings of Fijian citizens.

They could also be
seen as a direct insult to democracy, especially when Fiji's 2014 elections were clearly rigged, and being given new boats would only heighten Bainimarama's claim of legitimacy. This would only encourage Bainimarama in his corrupt dictatorship and oppression of Fijians. - TruthforFiji

Anybody surprised by these appointments? Remember Bainimarama telling the Fijian people that no military wallah will benefit from his "clean up "coup and then proceeding to appoint his military mates in cushy positions right across the civil administration and diplomatic posts? Well this is merely an extension of that same " merit " system lauded by Bainimarama government MP Lilliputian lawyer Ashneel Sudhaka in the " true " democracy of Bainimarama and Khaiyum's design. The " merit " system rewards fellow coupists and regime cronies. People of Fiji just have to live with that now.

The "3 Stooges". That's what we should refer them hereinafter.

We have a military Commander whose best qualification is driving a tin-boat around Drunibota Bay. He has never been in an active service situation. His only 'active service' has been around the bar at the Tradewinds Hotel in Lami.

Then we have Francis Kean, someone who was kicked out of Sinai for punching a US officer in another alcohol-fuelled rage.Yet he unashamedly wears the Sinai medal when he did not serve the full six months tour of duty to qualify for the medal.

Then we have the womaniser Qiliho who impregnated a young female soldier under his command.

What a shocker these apointments are. All 'masipolo' types. That's how you get ahead.

It was Aziz who signed off on Frank's 'long service leave' from 1975 which was approved by Mahen Chod as Minisiter of Finance.

Aziz is a second-rate lawyer who has never seen a shot fired in action, like his Commander Naupoto and Francis Kean.

Masipolo is the way to go in the new Fiji

This kean guy, just like religious fundamentalist Aiyaz's crony, Faiz Khan, seems to be one of the most talented people in Fiji. They can do anything and everything.

Editor,
LEADERS IN CORRUPTION
Just caught on DW News that Brazil police took in former President Lula Da Silva for questioning and searched properties connected to the leader and his family, drawing the country's most towering political figure closer into the sprawling corruption case centred on the oil giant Petrobras.
A ruling party senator Deccidio Amaral a major legislative ally of current president Rousseff before he was arrested in November, turned whistleblower, allegedly tied the president and Lula to the scandal engulfing Petrobras in a plea bargaining arrangement.
The two cases pending against Rouseff could see her removal from office. Here is a good example of the links between the ruling political elite and the corporate elite.
Here we have a good example also of the separation of powers and the police and justice system conducting themselves independently to hold the political elite accountable.
That is as should be in a working democracy.
( read more in ' Brazil Police Question ExPresident in Corruption Probe' ABC news 4/03 ).

This is further evidence that it is a bogus claim that Fiji has returned to democracy with the holding of an election and all that. This is the dictatorship entrenching itself in power under the garb of democracy. It is no coincidence that the coup leader Bainimarama's military cronies got appointed to these top posts.

These appointments clearly indicates that the systems and process for such high level (or for any level) appointments are non existent. Why bother advertising the post (and fooling people) when there are no shortlisting, interviewing etc etc. Additionally these positions require officers with utmost integrity. The irony here is that this government kicked out Commissioner Groenwald who was appointed on merit for doing his job and blatantly refused to toe the cover up line was kicked out and appointing Qiliho who had continuously obstructed the investigators in the human right abuse cases. Qiliho was responsible for harbouring fugitive Pita Matairavula at the QE barracks and refused access to police officers. Qiliho as Land Force Commander had ordered that Pita Matairavula be escorted to Sigatoka Magistrates court by eight military officers and refused the police officers talking to Pita Matairavula. Qiliho had refused to take any phone call from Groenwald and Minister Natuva (who was aware of all these development) stood helplessly on the side. Finally the frusturation and pressure got to Groenwald. The same fate was dished out to ACP Henry Brown by Qiliho, who brought back all the officers charged for Human Right abuse cases to investigate Brown on a trumped up allegations.
These appointments show how insecure the current regime is and to what length they will go to protect each other.

And these dubious appointments show that the dictatorship is still in place in Fiji notwithstanding the claim that Fiji had " returned to democracy". In a democracy such appointments are not handpicked by the rulers but selected on merit under established procedures and processes. In Fiji these are non existent. What we have are rubber stamping regime lackeys like the Constitution Office Commission and the puppet president. I salute you Grace Andrews for your courage to state this deplorable situation prevailing in Fiji under Bainimarama's rule.
