The D'Hondt Monkey Show is Fast Becoming a Circus as two more losers become FFP MPs. Mohammed Mursalinul Abe Dean with 589 votes and Mataiasi Akauola with 615 votes join their 'Monkey Minister' in Parliament

The ridiculous provision that allows election losers under Khaiyum's D'Hondt system to take up seats in Parliament is a mockery of democracy? In his obsession to hold on to the majority of seats, he decided not to include the by-election provision in his 2013 Constitution. Khaiyum should gazette that all students who failed their courses should be awarded their degrees or those who missed out on Civil Service jobs should be ready to take up positions vacated by successful candidates. SODELPA and other parties should be ashamed of accepting such a provision (and sending their own losers to Parliament) as they prepare for the next general election. There can't be two systems - one for parliamentarians (losers) and another for others outside Parliament!

Good clear thinking on the part of ALL opposition parties on what needed to be done to get rid of the Bainimarama-Khaiyum dictatorship and its phoney plans to hold a "democratic election" to return Fiji to democracy was conspicuous by its absence. They failed to see the big picture. They were preoccupied with their parochial party interests.
Now it's too late . The horse has bolted out of the paddock.
The Opposition is guilty of being a party to the farce of parliamentary democracy in Fiji. They have made a monkey of themselves by going through the motions of a cynically manipulated election and taking a seat in the new parliament.
The dictator and his cronies from the dictator's party - the Fiji First Theft party - are having a good laugh at them.
Perhaps they don't mind so long as they too can get their parliamentary pay, and perks, overseas trips etc.
Shame of them.

I am not actually surprised at addition BUT the standard of USP - from where Dean claims to have graduated with BA.

God save me, the level of English Dean was displaying in Parliament today leaves a lot to bé digested.

He did not even said anything about what he brings to the parliament n what he will contribute.

Dont tell me he ús on a picnic!

50,000.00 is a big money and ofcourse people like Dean, Rosy, and even that online doctor brij lal does mot qualify for.

Too much for too less

There is always a choice, you have to live with the consequence.
SODELPA and the other opposition parties made a choice to accept the manipulated election system put in place by the Bainimarama -Khaiyum dictatorship. They have to live with the consequence of their misguided choice. They let the people of Fiji down by not standing up to the dictatorship. They were only thinking about themselves and getting in as MPs.
Shame on them.

It is done and the system adopted allows for Losers to also rule Fiji. These are the candidates rejected by the majority and have no valid right of voice in Parliament, but it is what it is and so it would be proper to just sit back and watch this sprawling monkey business and have a good laugh. The best that can happen is for the Opposition to thank the Nation and end its term in Parliament for it has fast become a non-entity and irrelevant by design. Leave the House to the monkeys and preserve your Dignities.

Editor,
A Corruption Plagued Country
We learn from Tania Ngima's article ' For how long will the powerful rob us?' ( Standard Digital News 9/02 ) that Kenya is a corruption plagued country. A Transparency International report last year cited that Kenya loses Sh400 billion annually to corruption.
A recent report cites 107 corruption cases but , Tania writes " we are unable to cite a single case were public servants, especially those embroiled in massive looting have been found tried, culpable, and faced punitive action taken, including jailing or recovery of assets ... AND WE WONDER WHY PUBLIC CONFIDENCE IN THE POLITICAL ELITE IS FAST TAKING A NOSE DIVE( my emphasis ). just like in the run up to the last election, we have become enveloped in a predictable cycle where mega scandals rear their ugly heads as politicians race ... to amass funds for their campaign. And of course we are powerless to do anything about it because the Judiciary, which is touted as the last hope for the common man, has not only lost the electorates confidence but is buckling under claims of gross misconduct and complicities... The only people who get prosecuted in Kenya are ( the) powerless...
From claiming false allowances, foreign trips on irrelevant missions to abuse of office, it is obvious that ALL WE ARE DOING IS REWARDING DISHONEST BEHAVIOUR ".
Many of us who have been keenly following Fiji politics know precisely what Tania means.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Mohammed Dean is a loser and it is a shame on Fiji first to allow him in Parliament. He is a petty theif and kicked out of Education ministry for making false claims. He used to do his own work during official hours also. Why take him in when Dr. Reddy kicked him out?? God help PM open his eyes and kick the theif out.

" Former journalist and media executive Matai Akauola highlighted the need to foster a free, professional and independent media to promote democracy and an open and transparent society in his maiden speech in Parliament yesterday... He said the media had and continued to have an important role to play in ensuring political accountability" ( ' Fostering a free media' Fiji Times 10/02 ).
The Fiji First Theft Party of the dictator Frank Bainimarama which Matai Akauola joined is renown for fostering a free media with its media decree to ensure political accountability.
What hypocrisy? There was no media freedom during the 8 year dictatorship and there hardly is an independent media in Fiji under the Bainimarama- Khaiyum regime.
Today Matai. tomorrow we could have Nemani Delaibatiki of the regime propaganda paper Fiji Sun letting out the same fart about fostering " a free, professional and independent media to promote democracy" and all that.
What a sick joke!

Anyone who joins the Fiji Farce Party is bound to be against the best interests of the country and the very few people who look beyond the freebies and giveaways that many don't seem to realize has red taping, especially the "sapotas" caught up in the bribes.
