"THE HUGHES MODEL": Police Commissioner's forced resignation has all the hallmarks before the 2006 coup, except Bainimarama and his lackeys have stuffed the Constitutional Offices Commission with their own

* As the military began its final assault to remove the democratically elected Laisenia Qarase led SDL-FLP multi-party government, my highly reliable and faithful military sources at Berkeley Crescent for a number of years hurriedly sent off to me highly confidential materials for safekeeping and possible disclosure in the future. I will be revealing more details in my forthcoming book [with Russell Hunter, co-author] on the inside story about the 2006 coup and the key players and personalities behind the 5 December treasonous act;

* Among the reams of documents were letters from the military (Esala Teleni) demanding the removal of the then Police Commissioner Andrew Hughes who was determined to arrest and bring to trial Frank Bainimarama on various criminal charges including the murder of CRW unit soldiers following the 2000 mutiny at the barracks, which saw Bainimarama dash with 'dripping diarrhea' through the cassava patch for his life;

* The Minister for Homes Affairs  & Immigration had informed the military that if it has "credible evidence" against Hughes it should go to the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) for the Minister had no control on the Office of Commissioner of Police except on general policy;

* As we know, when the military failed to get its way, Teleni directly threatened to KILL Hughes and his family if he (Hughes) did not resign or left Fiji. In the end, the treasonous, murderous thugs, got their way by executing the 5 December coup;

* The recent pressure cooker "assault" on policing was a repetition of the "Hughes Model" that led to the resignation of the South African Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald and the appointment of the 2006 post-coup thug Sitiveni Qiliho as acting Police Commissioner;

* One notable difference is the COC - to ensure that these present thugs get their way, they have stuffed the COC with their own chamchas and kana lotos, and dictator Frank Bainimarama has become its chairman. Two irrelevant members on the COC are Ro Teimumu Kepa and Suva lawyer Richard Naidu. Fijileaks calls on the two to resign from the COC!

STATEMENT
[Nov 13/ 2015]

The Leader of the Opposition, Ro Teimumu Kepa, has called for an urgent meeting of the Constitutional Offices Commission to examine its standards of conduct and ensure that it is following proper procedures.

Ro Teimumu said that her call comes in the wake of the Police Commissioner’s unexpected resignation because of Military interference. Ro Teimumu said that instead of supporting the Police Commissioner, an independent constitutional officer, the Prime Minister and the Attorney-General had worked actively to undermine him.

Now, following his resignation, they have abused the Prime Minister’s delegated authority to make acting appointments, by appointing someone from outside the Police Force to act as Commissioner. In doing so they have ignored the highest-ranked Police officers currently in the Force with the skills and experience to lead the Police until a new Commissioner is appointed.

Ro Teimumu said she was aware that a Commission member, Mr Richard Naidu, had requested an urgent meeting of the Commission today to discuss the process of appointment of the acting Police Commissioner. She said she supported this request.

Ro Teimumu said Colonel Qiliho’s appointment as Acting Police Commissioner was inappropriate and could not stand if the government was serious about the independence of the Police.

Thank you Fijileaks for all the background information - the historical record of the thuggery engaged by Bainimarama and his co coup conspirators to take out people who they deemed obstacles to their evil plan to takeover the government of Fiji which the did unlawfully in 2006 and lawfully in 2014 following that rigged elections.
Lawfully or unlawfully one thing is clear : Fiji has thugs as rulers.

Editor,
Allan Morris tells us in his letter ' Lies, folly, evasions, hatred and schizophrenia - it's just politics ' ( smh 14/11 ) that Mark Kenny's article ' Honesty delayed is honesty denied ' ( Nov 13 ) about politicians not telling the truth is depressing because it impugns the character of the people who represent us...
Who can disagree with that?
The title of the letter comes from George Orwell's e 1946 essay Politics and the English Language where he describes politics at that time as " a mass of lies, folly, evasions, hatred and schizophrenia".
When one takes a look at politics today it doesn't take long to realise not much has changed.
There most certainly hasn't been any " paradigm change " as some politicians promised...
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Editor,
Simon Hazelman's letter in the Fiji Times 14/11 in praise of military intervention in the nation's civilian life reminds me why Winston Churchill once remarked " The biggest argument against democracy is a five minute discussion with the average voter ".
Churchill would no doubt have had a voter like Simon Hazelman in mind.
Simon writes in his letter titled ' Military Intervention ' :
" So much negative talk about our RFMF interfering in national issues. So what? Isn't it a good thing? I believe we are very fortunate to have their allegiance in a time when we need them most. Our police force can only do so much and must work closely with RFMF. I hate to imagine what our state of affairs would be without RFMF's control. I believe we are still 10-15 years away from easing off their influence. It is an obligation that is essential to our affairs albeit tough at times. Thanks RFMF for a job well done. Salute! ".
Now can you even begin to have a rational, intelligent discussion on the place of the military in a modern democracy with a crooked thinking person like that?
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Military has intervened thrice to remove democratically elected governments in Fiji -and Simon says salute!

Nah, Churchill was much too liberal, I wouldn't give people like Simon even a second of my time.

Simon must have had too much 'waka' at Nacekoro village the other night.

He can therefore be forgiven for demonstrating his ignorance of the role of the military in a liberal-democracy of the type that Fiji and its citizens aspire to.

Keyboard warriors like Simon should take two Panadol and make sure they are well rested before they start attacking their keyboard to share their silly thinking with the rest of Fiji.

Actually I am surprised that there even is such a thing as Constitutional Offices Commission. I suppose it is part of the paraphernalia of pretending a return to good constitutional democratic governance when in reality the way of the dictatorship remains uninterrupted following the conduct of the rigged election and restoration of " parliamentary " democracy.
I agree a full 100 percent with the Fijileaks call for Ro Teimumu Kepa and lawyer Richard Naidu to resign from the COC. They are party to a farce. They should know that.

The COC should be properly reffered to as - FKCOC.

I am sure Simon Hazelman is getting some benefit from the military. he said what would Fiji do without the Military. I want to tell him that there would have being no coup if there wasn't military in Fiji and Fiji would have being 50 years ahead.

What would Fiji do without the military Simon says? well the colonialists managed to govern the country alright without needing to have the military in politics. They only brought out the military from the barracks for emergencies . Now Simon wants the military out of the barracks without any emergency. Either he is not all good in the head or like you say he is " getting some benefit from the military".

Simon Hazelman comes from a family whose origins are German from the province of Prussia. The original German settler, George Hazelman was given land in Rava. The Germans were a militaristic people who were responsible for causing two World Wars through their military-dominated approach to politics.

That explains Simon's position on the role of the military in politics.

Someone should remind him that the Germans lost World War 1 and World War 2!!

He is merely mouthing what is already in his

Editor,
Nishant Singh of Lautoka has written an excellent letter in response to Simon Hazelman's letter advocating the military should have a role in national politics.
Nishant writes ( FT 16/11 ) :
" if military intervention on national issues is a good thing as one writer ( Simon Hazelman ) has stated, then what is the purpose of electing a democratic government?
If the Government cannot run the nation using the democratic process, I suggest we install a military government and go back to military rule.
And for your information, I believe the role of the military is to maintain peace and stability of a country, not hinder or obstruct the day to day affairs of the elected government.
I believe the Government has authority to call the shots, not the military".
That is true.
But what kind of " elected democratic government " does Fiji really have with coup tainted military generals in charge?
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu
