UPDATE: As SODELPA appoints Sitiveni Rabuka as party leader, we recommend its MPs form a coalition with fellow coupist Frank Bainimarama's FFP - for SODELPA has truly and firmly sanctioned the coup culture in Fiji. For the record, I categorically deny that I did utter those words.

If I did, then it implies I had foreknowledge of the coup.

I had no pre-knowledge and was never involved in the 1987 coup plot.

Well the LIAR is now the leader of Sodelpa.

He'll probably lead them out of existence the same way he led SVT out of existence.

At this rate and standard of judgement, there is no party left to support in Fiji. Why?
* FFP is a coupist party.
* SODELPA has become a coupist party.
* NFP is a coupist party (it had a deal with Rambo in 1999)
* FLP is a coupist party (MPChaudhry was involved in 2006 coup and had a deal with Rabuka after 1992 election)
* Trade Union new party is a coupist party (led by coup supporters Felix A and D Urai.)
Rabuka won through democratic processes. There was no rigging of votes or processes. There was no threat and intimidation to vote for Rabuka. Why not give him a chance. Every criminal deserves a chance in Life. Let Rabuka prove his worth in bringing a democratic Fiji.

What else would you expect from a methodist christian? This guy said he spoke to God for christ sake. How stupid can people of Fiji seriously to believe an army officer spoke to God and was granted a blessing to carry out a coup? People are so DUMB!!!

Yes, I recall Rambo telling us that God came and spoke to him while he was weeding his tavioka patch at the back of QEB. God was wearing a geen bula shirt and black sul with matching pair of black policemen sandals!

And many of the great unwashed out there in society believed him, as they now want him to have another go and prove his worth (Mele).

When will we ever learn?

I choked on my Fiji-style banana pancakes this morning when again I read about Pastor Suliasi Karalo tell the SODELPA meeting at the FTA Hall, that God revealed to him one morning when he was in prayer, that Rabuka would be the next SODELPA leader!

I just wonder whether God was still wearing the green bula shirt and policeman sandals that he wore when he last spoke to Rabuka in 1987?

Vinaka Victor. I did not call Rabuka a 'liar' (a rather strong word) but am denying that such a conversation ever took place with me on the subject of a (treasonous) coup plot.

The statement attributed to me wherein I purportedly described myself as a 'white European' is not true ....I am not a 'white European' and have never claimed to be such.

Curiously, I am rather amused by it all.

I am rather amused that I would have referred to myself as a 'white European'....when I am not.

It is good to know Jim Sanday did not regard himself as a " white European " and certainly did not refer to himself as such "when he is not".
Many Kailomas in Fiji regarded themselves as white Europeans and conducted or carried themselves as such. Even some Kaidias conducted and carried themselves in that manner. Among the Indo-Fijians they were referred to as " Karia Gora ".
This was a classic case of the colonised internalising and mimicking the white European coloniser.

I served under him in Lebanon at a time when our (Fijibatt) positions were constantly under attack. We lost several men in those attacks.

Colonel Jim was a top class officer; spoke Fijian fluently, mostly using his mother's dialect from Tailevu North; great sense of humour, well spoken with a very good presence and respected by all other contingents. Under his leadership we were considered the best in UNIFIL.

Yes, the only truly professional and honest one out of all of them. He remained loyal to his Oath of Allegiance, the only one to do so.

David Robie's account of the 1987 coup in his book 'Blood on their Banner' is required reading for anyone interested in the events of 1987.

Victor, your subheading on this post is making Ratu Mara look innocent.
I was in Suva Grammar school and a classmate was the son of Alliance finance minister. He quite categorically told me about a "takeover" in 1982, when Alliance Party thought that NFP will win again as in 1977.
Not only was Ratu Mara the mastermind but it was common knowledge amongst the children of cabinet ministers. That's why Peter Stinson jumped in to help Rabuka,because it was all planned 5 years in advance . The coup was meant to happen in 1982 but Alliance won and the plans were put on hold. Rabuka was not part of the coup plan but Epeli Nailatikau was. He got cold feet and is still waiting for the navy patrol boats he went to collect in Canberra back in 1987.
