"New Party Leader of the Social Democratic Liberal Party Major General (Retired) Sitiveni Rabuka advised the party’s Members of Parliament to never tire of telling the truth and to never back down. Rabuka was speaking after MPs and supporters pledged their support for his leadership at a ceremony on Wednesday June 29 at the party office in Suva.

MPs present included the Tui Namosi Hon. Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, Hon. Ratu Sela Nanovo, Hon. Salote Radrodro (Deputy Whip), Hon. Josefa Dulakiverata, Hon. Aseri Radrodro and Hon. Mosese Bulitavu.

Party Parliamentary Leader Hon. Ro Teimumu Kepa is attending the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians meeting in New Zealand this week while the Party Whip Hon. Ratu Isoa Tikoca and Hon. Viliame Gavoka are attending a UNDP political stability workshop for Melanesia in Nadi this week. Niko Nawaikula, Mika Leaware and Anare Vadei are visiting constituents outside Suva.

Also pledging their support were former Party President Ratu Silivenusi Waqausa, former RFMF Colonel Sakiusa Raivoce, Ratu Ilaitia Tuisese and other senior party figures. Other senior party members in Fiji and other parts of the world have also pledged their support.

Party stalwart Colonel (Retired) Sakiusa Raivoce presented a sevusevu to the new Leader. The sevusevu presentation was accepted on the party leader’s behalf by senior party member from Bua, Mitieli Bulanauca.
Expressing his gratitude for their support, Rabuka acknowledged the presence of his close former military comrades Ratu Waqausa, Col. Raivoce, and former schoolmates present at the gathering.

Rabuka said that the task before the party is difficult but not impossible and that it can only be tackled together, in unity, “Na icolacola qo, meda colata vata, meda veitokoni taka, meda veitomani vata.” (“Let us work together to tackle the task before us, let us support each other and work together,”) - Salote Radrodro, Facebook

"Never stop telling theTruth". To which one might add: "Never stop ELICTING the Truth. The unassailable duty of any credible Opposition Party. So, may we be told now how it was that a nation with one of the highest rates in the world of female cervical cancer failed to ensure full Gardasil vaccination cover of three doses for school age girls from 9 - 12 years old? a singularly consummate failure of the Duty to Protect under WHO guidelines in 2009 when it was first made available? The rate of cervical cancer in Fiji has been at times the highest recorded in the world (1970s). Why and how was attention diverted from such a vital obligation? While rape and sexual assaults continue to place young girls and women at considerable risk still. Lay Preachers might care to address this anomaly. With Divine Assistance and impeccable example they might seek to right an inequitable and undoubted wrong?

We need to expose each and everyone of these ethno-nationalists and their sordid role in 1987.

Lets not allow history to forget these people who have, like Rabuka, stayed under the radar since 2006 and have now reasserted themselves under the same ethno-nationalist banner that we saw in 1987.

Apparently, a clear majority of SODELPA leaders have voted for Rabuka - Congratulations!

However, my first question is, did these leaders make unilateral decisions or did they consult their constituencies in terms of the nominees as well as who to appoint as the party leader?

Perhaps, a wide consultation process with their constituencies may be very expensive but extremely strategic and important for the party’s success in the next election - government for the people by the people.

If there was no wide consultation process, then my second question is, has SODELPA truly resolved its leadership issue?

Colonel Sakiuasa Raivoce; Colonel Silivenusi Waqausa; Colonel Isoa Tikoca etc etc....all half educated Rabuka apologists who Rabuka promoted after the coup of 1987.

All promoted by Rabuka beyond their competence to the exalted rank of Colonel, when in reality the best they could achieve education-wise was the exalted rank of Lance Corporal!

What a joke.

No wonder they went down on their knees to present their 'sevu sevu' to Rambo after his appointment. They are like pigs lining up again at the trough hoping to get their snouts back in.

What a hopeless lot!

Something is not right with the figures. Kilikiliraki was the choice of the Bose Ni Vanua o Naitasiri yet we are told Naitasiri voted for Rabuka?

I wondering about that too!

They need to release the votes polled by each of the five candidates if we are to be convinced that this is not a 'smoke and mirrors' trick by the coupists now running SODELPA.

The Raidrodro family seemed to have silently done a Coup within the SODELPA party so the rumours were true afterall. Interesting developments coming up ahead I suppose.

Who are the Raidrodro family and what is this idea about them doing a 'coup' within SODELPA?

Editor,
We Think We Have It Bad
Spare a thought for the suffering people of Syria. In an exclusive interview with SBS to be broadcast at 7.30 tonight Syrian dictator Bashar al- Assad claims in public western democracies criticise him and in private they do deals with him.
Is anyone surprised by President Assad's claim?
Isn't that how politics Is often played out in the international arena : with political expediency and hypocrisy rather than doing what is right by the people?
Sincerely,

The way the interview was conducted..we will see if this Rabuka really achieves all that he promised the gullible people in Sodelpa. And Pita yes you are right Naitasiri did not give this man their vote! They had proposed Rokini. Words can be emphty so this guy will soon show us what he really is. He cannot brandish the Indo Fijian card for multiracialism if he doesn't mean it. By the way did you notice how he tried to compare his actions of 1987 to the beating of his daughter by his former son in law MP Radrodro? He wants people to forgive him...and tells women why Radrodro was taken in 2014 as a candidate and yet he is rejected? Its a joke if he thinks he can compare his actions of 87 to the beating of his daughter who had an affair with a young man and was caught in bed with him at the young man's house! Rabuka remains a bitter twisted man and is just being an opportunist! His co conspirators will be shown some day soon....don't worry Victor Indo Fijians are here to stay!!! These guys ga can ship themselves to the North where they can set up a govt....
