This 80-year-old Indo Fijian man sheltered in his toilet throughout the onslaught of TC Winston. He and his family in Dawasamu, Tailevu, were all smiles as Global Compassion arrived with cartons of much needed food supplies. — with Josh Donumauibulu.

Levuka bound. Off loading in Levuka Town this afternoon (Tuesday March 1st). When the Global Compassion team arrived, there was still enough light to start distribution. All hands on deck as boxes of food rations was passed from truck to waiting trucks and also onto boats to reach the villages on the other side of the island where roads have been damaged and trucks couldn't go through. Drums of Pre-mix fuel was also off loaded for boats to Moturiki and around the island of Ovalau. A big vinaka vakalevu to Pastor Eparama Bukalidi and the CMF church volunteers in Levuka for coordinating distribution.

Mrs Mati was overwhelmed because for a week, she had things taken away from her, not only by the cyclone but by able-bodied men who did not care about the suffering she was going through.

"I have no children and no family and my husband has been handicapped for more than 15 years. Everyone around here knows he is handicapped and that I am weak and can't do anything, that's why they just come and take whatever they want.

"At night I hear the dogs barking and see them taking our stuff but I'm an old woman. I am too afraid to confront them. The other night someone just walked up to our door and walked off with our boots and shoes."

I salute each person who has extended a helping hand in any way to the victims of the cyclone faced with all kinds of hardship and hunger.
And for doing so without any ulterior motive - like wanting votes in the next election.
They are the people with a true sense of human decency and fellow feeling.

It is remarkable that in Fiji the Fijian media has apparently cast a politician as a messiah if the news reports and social media commentaries are anything to go by. By contrast in Australia the Australian media has in its front page exposed Cardinal George Pell, as no messiah but a man of cloth who had failed to do the right thing by victims of abuse. " His own words lost him so much credibility..." ( the Age 2/03).
It shouldn't be hard to see which media is fulfilling its role honestly.

Why was no security escort for this shipment of hazardous chemicals from Suva to Vatukoula when a simple risk assessment would show clear and very high risk due to the severe consequences of any mishap

The National Disaster Management Office has issued an urgent advisory for residents of settlements and villagers living along the Wainibuka river beginning from Wailotua Village to the Rewa delta to refrain from using the River as a water source for washing, bathing, cooking or drinking.
DISMAC’s Permanent Secretary – Meleti Bainimarama says this advisory comes after a truck carrying toxic chemicals – Sodium Cyanide was involved in an accident in Wailotua in Wainibuka yesterday.
Until authorities complete all assessment works, residents living along these parts are advised against using the river, nearby tributaries and creeks as a water source.
Parents and guardians should also ensure that their children are safe and refrain from using the rive

Security is rather reserved for some time now. Their roles have switched from protecting the citizens to protecting two very popularly elected parliamentarians.
Why on earth does one need body guards if they're so loved by voters and elected by a landslide margin?
Is someone not telling us the truth about popularity? Is it like Qarase's popularity when some 842000 votes were cast with only 810000 or so citizens? Even babies, animals and every human being voted SDL then.
Something about this election and landslide majority ain't sounding too straight.
We the people of Fiji are tired of crooks of all race,creed, class.
Perhaps the best thing for all crooks and cheats would be to go commit suicide and do us all a huge favour.That would show the integrity of the hypocrites. At least their respective Gods would be proud of them.

I have just received the following from Faithful America (3 March ) and thought I should share it with people on Fijileaks who would be able to relate to its message.
" Donald Trump is holding himself out as an authoritarian messiah - a strongman whose toxic stew of racism and fear- mongering will ' make America great again' .
This is idolatry, plain and simple. Christians follow a saviour who suffered death on a cross, not a " winner" who espouses violence and domination as the path to national salvation.
There's only one thing more frightening than Donald Trump as the likely nominee of the Republican Party : The fact that so many Christians are supporting him..."
We have had first hand experience of this perverse support for certain of our own strongman authoritarian messiah since the first military coup of 1987.
Things have not changed all that much since then on the " messiah" front, has it?

Can someone tell me the truth about the miracle water??

Are the health authorities and government also investigating claims of all the negative things being put on the internet as well and correct them for the people that would actually like to visit this miracle water site. For example can the fijian government and authorities put out a fact sheet about this miracle water. Some of the claims on the internet are quite scary, for example some women have turned into big snakes after bathing in this miracle water, one right on the site and one in her hotel room. What is the truth about this? Can I talk to someone who actually works at this miracle water site, any pastors there, anyone whose there daily and talk to them by email? I would appreciate it very much. The bible says in the end of days, there will be a lot of natural disasters that will speed up around the world, and it has, and the bible also says that there will be some false miracles that appears to be from Jesus in the final days, but it is from the devil itself, so I am just trying to be careful. Can a pastor or someone that actually works there everyday, please contact me so I can ask questions of any negative things that have happened there,. Don't email me any pictures.
