'There is obviously something wrong with this man, as no respectable Fijian will ever behave in this manner in the President's Office'; damning indictment of Bainimarama's disrespectful behavior towards Ratu Iloilo!

“I am very saddened to hear that the Member of Parliament, Honourable Lalabalavu has chosen to denigrate the Office of the Speaker of our Parliament by swearing in the vernacular at the Honourable Speaker, Madam Jiko Luveni. As you know, the Speaker of Parliament holds a very esteemed position in our Constitutional system of Government in which Parliament is the supreme law-making body. To have Honourable Lalabalavu who has not acted very honourably, publicly use abusive terms is scandalous to say the least and indeed is an attack on the Fijian Parliamentary system of governance.” -
Frank Bainimarama on Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu

The Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President and Vice-President was appalled at the disrespect the then Commander of the RFMF, Voreqe Bainimarama had shown towards the then President and Paramount High Chief, Ratu Josefa Iloilo, in March 2003:

And what about this FFP MP and bloodthirsty hound Ashneel Sudhakar, appointed by Aiyaz Khaiyum as chairman of the Justice, Law and Human Rights Committee?

Disrespectful is an understatement.

Late Ratu Iloilo was not the only President harassed by this rogue Bainimarama.

Wasn’t the late President Ratu Mara also taken hostage by this same rogue Bainimarama, in some naval ship, in 2000, soon after which Bainimarama declared the 1997 Constitution abrogated?
Bainimarama is quite natural at harassing Presidents and making them ‘purportedly’ abrogate our Constitution.

Respect is a reciprocal relationship. One has to give it to get it. This quintessential basis for respect disappeared from the Fijian political landscape following the military coup of 1987 when no respect was accorded to the Rule of Law in the country and all that it entailed.
What we lost then - the respect for the rule of law and the norms of acceptable social behaviour - we never really recovered.
If anything our departure became more entrenched .
What we witnessed in the 2006 military takeover by Frank Bainimarama and his military men with the help of prominent civilians is the culmination of that departure from the norms of respectful conduct as defined by the 1996 Constitution of Fiji.
The rest is history.

And what did that Mr Bean looking American ambassador say about Bainimarama ? That a psychiatrist would have a field day sorting him out. Not hard to see why he had said that. The man's a real case!,

Decrying as " an attack on the Fijian parliamentary system of governance" what a preposterous thing for the Dictator of Fiji to talk about !

Editor,

Rajend Naidu has a point. The coup of 1987 was indeed a turning point for Fiji and the Fijians as a whole. Fijians witnessed, for the first time, a mere Fijian (Rabuka) go up against his Commander-in-Chief and superiors (who were also chiefs) but also against another Fijian who was at the head of government at the time.

No lightning struck Rabuka dead as a result of this and the Fijians realised for the first time, that the authority of their chiefs could also be challenged. Since then, coups have continued to challenge the authority of chiefs because coups are carried out by the ordinary Fijian.

Respect was definitely lost in 1987 and the chiefs never regained that "god-like" status they had enjoyed prior to the coup of 1987.

Will he do the same to the new in coming female President?

Victor has already posted in this new choice.

Ratu Naiqama should not be let off the hook either. He used foul language on a church premises against the Speaker. These people desecrate the church when it suites and yet claim to be pious Christians. For Naiqama to stoop to such gutter levels shows his disrespect for the church, and the level of his hatred, clearly because he is out of power.

This same Ratu Naiqama was behind the November 2000 mutiny. People like him influenced Fijians to kill Fijians. They are blinded by their greed for power and privileged to which they feel an entitlement and divine right.

Victor, I hope you do not censor this and you think twice before jumping to the defence of scroundels like Naiqama, a dangerous man filled with hate.

And what about the behind the scene hand of the chiefs in every coup?
You ignore the complicity of the chiefs - including the chief who was army commander at time of Rabuka coup.
That coup would have never got off the ground without the blessings of the chiefs who mattered at the time. Let's get that straight.

Think about it. It's not coincidental that Ratu Epeli Nailatikau the army commander and chief at the time of the Rabuka coup is now President after the Bainimarama coup.
The man's been up to his neck in the coup culture in Fiji.

I am so unimpressed with Frankie's criticism of Tui Cakau as I understand that Lalabalavu himself only said that on humorous terms as it doesn't hurt to crack a joke every once in a while in order to unwind from serious matters in parliament during breaks.

Quite appaling to see Frankie's lack of sense of humor over something thats not really a big issue other than his and AK-47's lack of understanding where you can't be serious all the time.

Its like he is saying, "No Spoiling Allowed" here......very ludicrous indeed.

It is true that Lalabalavu mentioned it was all in jest. Unfortunately, his comments have been deemed derogatory and there is a fine line between "professional" humour and gutter level humour; the latter being applicable in this case.

It is almost as if someone were to make a very crude remark during the Queen's address to the parliament in Britain. No one would laugh and the perpetrator would be roundly criticised by one and all.

There is definitely a time for everything and Lalabalavu's timing was absolutely atrocious in this case.

Saying vutusona in a church is no laughing matter. It's a shame that Christians are supporting such a person who disregarded Christian values. No wonder the Methodists church is losing membership as it keeps on supporting low life's like Naiqama and likes. I'm ashamed to call myself a Christian. Better to be an atheists.

And what about all the Christians who gave their full support to coupist Frank Bainimarama - including the head of the Catholic Church?
What about all the Christians who remained silent when the megalomaniac Frank Bainimarama swore at and threatened the padre Father Kevin Barr? It is easy to be selective about who we choose to condemn. It is also hypocritical .
