TISI AND MINISTER PARVEEN BALA: He is charged with causing death by dangerous driving so why wasn't he disqualified from contesting under Sangam's Constitution - bringing 'disrepute' to TISI and hiding from law?

Article 4.4: 'Any member who has been implicated and found guilty by the Council of Management/a court of law for any impropriety, corruption, fraud, fraudulent conversion of Sangam funds, or is owing money to Sangam or has been involved in any other act of disrepute and misconduct which is deemed to be detrimental to the interest of Sangam and/or has been disciplined under the provisions contained in Article 8 of the Memorandum and Articles of Association of Sangam shall not be eligible to be elected to any office bearer’s position nor be eligible to be a member of the Council of Management.'

CONFLICT OF INTEREST?: Shailend Krishna is Sangam's legal adviser and is also representing Bala over the causing death by dangerous driving charge, so is there a conflict of interest? Should he be investigated by the Independent Legal Service Commission?

Lawyer Shailendra Krishna hasn't had TOO MUCH representing to do in Bala's causing death by dangerous drunken driving charge, has he?
That is being taken care of by Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum . That's why Bala is such a Khaiyum goli. Yes, Sangam must do whatever it takes to make sure this scumbag does not grab power over this respected organisation.

Editor,
Uniformity, Consistency and Impartiality in the Application of the law.
We read in The Fiji Times article ' Driver charged in connection with fatal accident' ( 1/6 ) that a 19 year old will appear in the Lautoka Magistrates Court today charged with one count of dangerous driving occassioning death.
Was the Honourable Minister Praveen Bala charged with the same offence?
It would be interesting to see how expeditiously the justice system deals with the 19 year old's case in contrast to Bala's.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

The conflict of interest is quite obvious and more than apparent. It is self-evident and only a moron would assert otherwise. For those of us who have worked with Sangam for decades based on their reputation for integrity and social conscience, it is an affront and morally as well as legally unconscionable. This lawyer must be reminded that even 'perceived' conflicts of interest are to be DECLARED. Think of FIFA! In this instance a man's life is lost through more than a foolish mistake. The entire saga fills us with revulsion.

Same as Rajend Chaudhry where he got suspended. Why not Krishna?
What about Monster for Education who was campaigning for Bala using Ministry of Education resources. We know that he instructed the Special School HT to give the school for the rebel faction meeting. This is abuse of office. But who will take action against these criminals as the Police and FICAC are under the master criminal. This leaves the military, but it is too scared of Khaiyum.
