TRAVEL BILL?: FLP leader MAHENDRA CHAUDHRY, "While the Minister [Khaiyum] has cleared that he is paying for his treatment, it has not been clarified as to who is paying for his travel costs to and from Singapore"

2/3/2021

“There is speculation that a Fiji Airways flight was specially chartered to fly him to Singapore. The public must be given full details of his travel arrangements, the costs involved and the source from which it is to be paid...Economy Minister Sayed-Khaiyum should be put on medical leave and an acting minister appointed to manage the portfolios under his charge.”  - Mahendra Chaudhry
Frank Bainimarama has told Legend FM News that Mahendra Chaudhry and CSO Alliance are seriously not worth answering to as they are just trying to be relevant by making such statements. Bainimarama says
“tell them to go ahead and do something useful if not for themselves then for their neighbours.”

WHY isn't Khaiyum on medical leave?
Economy Minister Sayed-Khaiyum should be put on medical leave and an acting minister appointed to manage the portfolios under his charge, says Labour Leader Mahendra Chaudhry.
“He has been away overseas now for over two weeks undergoing serious medical procedures in Singapore according to his own statements to the media over the week-end. “The normal practice in cases where a Minister is away from a country, more so when on medical treatment, is to appoint an acting minister to take charge. Why is this not being done in the case of Sayed-Khaiyum?” Mr Chaudhry asked.
“It is absurd for the Prime Minister to allow Minister Khaiyum to manage the economy and several other ministries under his substantive charge from his hospital bed 5209 miles from Fiji.
“Surely there are other senior ministers in his government who can be appointed to act in the position? “It is not known for how long Sayed-Khaiyum will be away overseas and when he will be declared fit to resume normal duties on his return, after examination by a local medical board. The situation clearly warrants an acting appointment,” Mr Chaudhry said. “The other connected issue is that while the Minister has cleared that he is paying for his treatment, it has not been clarified as to who is paying for his travel costs to and from Singapore.
“There is speculation that a Fiji Airways flight was specially chartered to fly him to Singapore. The public must be given full details of his travel arrangements, the costs involved and the source from which it is to be paid,” said Mr Chaudhry.

"The executive of the [Fiji Muslim] League cannot and does not represent the political opinion, views, philosophies of individuals or the bulk of Muslims in Fiji. These self appointed guardians do not speak for the masses."
