The power-sharing concept was designed to ensure that Rabuka became Prime Minister and his housemaid and NFP leader, Jai Ram Reddy, became his minion. As we know, both were defeated by Mahendra Chaudhry (Chaudhry was no military general) in the 1999 election, with Rabuka disappearing into political wilderness and Reddy slipped out of the country, leaving his Indo-Fijian supporters to lick their wounds. As Victor Lal's continuing series on the fall of Chaudhry will explain, it was the power-sharing concept that led to the turmoil of 2000 (among other factors). To date, Reddy has not uttered a word on events in Fiji.
As for Beddoes, he resigned from SODELPA in disgust over Sitiveni Rabuka's appointment. We cannot condemn Bainimarama and embrace Rabuka. A Coup is a Coup. SODELPA have lost the moral high ground to lecture and whinge. Only the blind will follow them like sheep.
Rabuka is still a Wolf in Sheep's Sulu, pretending to have reformed.
His record in power is dismal, and that is why he was kicked out in 1999. He has not even run a bingo hall since his defeat, and the Government should release the report on his role in the financial mess at the Cakaudrove Provincial Council; maybe we should reveal it on Fijileaks? It was at one of the Cakaudrove Pronvincial Council meetings in 1994 where Rabuka, as Prime Minister, had committed adultery with a Fiji Times reporter covering the meeting. At a meeting of the Soqosoqo Vakavulewa Ni Taukei (SVT) caucus, Rabuka admitted the adultery accusation, saying his wife and talatala (pastor) had both forgiven him. Rabuka, a lay preacher, was also stripped of his pastoral duties. A stormy session broke out but in the interests of party unity, the members forgave Rabuka and asked him to stay clean. Now, 23 years later, SODELPA is once again on a damage limitation exercise following the leaking to the press of Sainiana Radrodro's email in relation to the comments made by Rabuka calling for a public poll to be conducted to determine how many leaders are engaging in adulterous affairs. Radrodro had emailed a number of SODELPA officials expressing her disappointment over the public comments by Rabuka:

Fijileaks: In 1987 Rabuka tore up the 1970 negotiated Constitution and forcibly imposed his RACIST 1990 Constitution under which Fiji was ruled until the 1997 Constitution. If Bainimarama is to follow Rabuka, then SODELPA should just shut up and accept the 2013 Constitution for the next 7 years. Bloody hypocrites, now kissing Rabuka's buttocks while whipping Bainimarama's backside!!!

They are also using the revolting MUSLIM CARD against Aiyaz Khaiyum, cheered on and silently encouraged by, Fiji HINDU nationalists. Lately, KISHORE KUMAR made the following allegations on his Facebook against FFP Government Whip ASHNEEL SUDHAKAR claiming he (Sudhakar) expressed anti-Muslim sentiments:

In the above alleged exchanges between Kumar and Sudhakar, we notice one Deepak Chauhan's comment. Sudhakar has claimed, according to our sources, that Kumar fabricated his emails. How does he, then, explain, Chauhan's comment in the above exchanges? It is worth noting, and crucially, that in October 2014, the same Chauhan and others in separate Facebook postings, had called for the murder of Fijileaks founding Editor-in-Chief VICTOR LAL:

Fijileaks: The former Education Minister Mahendra Reddy has been charged with one count of bribery and one count of undue influence under the Electoral Act. And he is fronting court, for promising water to a school if they voted for FFP. It is alleged that Reddy, on or about 8th May this year, in Rakiraki, in order to influence the vote of Waisea Lelobo, the Manager of Ra High School, directly conferred or offered to confer a benefit namely a steady water source for Ra High School.

I beg to differ that the muslim card is unfairly used by critics whom you class as extremists. The reality is that kaiyum has created division amongst the races by giving preferential treatment to muslims and targeting native fijians and hindus with the assistance of ficac and the biased judiciary. nadra was brought in by saneem and kaiyum quickly acted to stop any audit on the selection processs by bringing in a decree disallowing any audit until requested by saneem. as a writer pointed out in earlier article, the reddy case currently before the court has revealed that ficac instigated the complaint against reddy and not the manager of ra high school. everyone knows that ficac is kaiyums dog. it only wags it tail when kaiyum ask them to. ficac has so far failed to charge abdul khan for massive abuse and conflict of interest at fsc but were quick to charge reddy, ganesh chand and isoa. kaiyum is also discriminating against native fijians and hindus by appointing muslims at top level positions. its sad that fiji leaks cant see and is labeling concerns of inequality and isolation of native fijians and hindus as extremism. if fiji leaks does impartial analysis of what all is being said by contributors, they will realize that there is a lot of truth in those. rather than being ignorant, fiji leaks should devote time in analysing kaiyums actions and it will make them realise the truth in the concerns raised by so called whinges and extremist.

@Ficac, you forgot a very important player who instigated the whole farce against reddy:kaiyum-the master playerkaiyum is a racist and hates hindus just like saneem and his family. It’s a shame that hindus don’t recognise this and been worshipping the devil who is slowly degrading hindus to third class status. Reddy’s case is where the shit has started to float. There is absolutely no substance in reddys case and as revealed in the court case, it was just to get him out so kaiyum can take control of the ministry. It was obvious when the case was brought up that kaiyum had earmarked a muslim (Dean) to take over but Fiji Exposed Forum has already revealed this. kaiyum with help from his puppet Bainimarama than devised a plan to put Bainimarama incharge but we all know that Bainimarama is a global trotter so kaiyum gets to make decisions in the end. bainimarama made similar comments in the norther division and he was never charged for it. Saneem also framed Nimita Khatri, the former high commissioner to India. Muslims attack like a pack of dogs while hindus are willing to cut the throat of their own if it will benefit them. Hindus in fiji is so blinded by the false security created by kaiyum by putting Bainimarama in front that they cant see what is being done to destroy them. Majority of hindus intellectuals are facing drummed up charges while hardline muslim criminals are roaming free. The sad part is that hindus are responsible for their own demise. people like jyoti prathiba, ashneel Sudhakar and now victor lal is on a crusade to crucify any hindu they can get any bit of dirt on. Kaiyum is playing the dirty game of politics well. He has the military, money and media on his middle finger and rotates it as and when he wants to get what he wants. As the rise comes, fall for all dictators does come and it comes with worst consequences. The only bad part when the end for dictators come is that a lot of innocent victims suffer. In fiji, hindus and muslims will once again suffer for the pain and suffering that kaiyum is inflicting on the natives. Chaudhary just made a decision to interfere with land and it brought about chaos. Kaiyum has done much worst so imagine the end when it comes. It will again result in the indian community paying the price for the misdeeds of a few. Let’s continue to be blind worshippers of the devil and let him run the show till he can. We are creators of our own destiny and it seems that we are destined for worst suffering imaginable by supporting the devil in disguise. Until then, let’s some of be the parrots and some the sideline show watchers. Its kalyug and the devil rules is what hindu vedic says. Daniel Singh, I didn't cinsider it necessary to state the obvious. The poor excuse for a supervisor of elections does not move a finger without khaiyum's instructions and I believe everybody knows this. Never before in Fiji's history, did we have such a puppet for supervisor of elections. He has destroyed the sanctity of that office beyond measure.

Because who?...In the name of almighty gave pagla Khaiyum powers to abrogate the Peoples' 1997 Constitution of Fiji???Like post 1990 activism focused on Rabuka's IMPOSED Constitution, the post 2013 activism MUST focus on Khaiyum's IMPOSED Constitution and Not on Khaiyum's religion or race.

Khaiyum and cabal belong in Naboro with GS (if TRUTH is to be spoken and as well as Chaudhary, Rabuka, Pio and Robin and many others as well). But that does not make all Muslims, Christians and Hindus bad. Mercy! Love and Respect!

It is quite obvious from his posts that Victor Lal is anti-Hindu and that's why he consistently writes posts discrediting Hindus. He is either too naive or too far away from Fiji to know the extent to which Muslims are getting preferential treatment in khaiyum's fiji. It is, in fact, khaiyum's bigotry that is fueling resentment towards all Muslims (which is very unfair to ordinary Muslims. It is such a pity that khaiyum, who claims to be a champion of anti-discrimination is such a bigot. He only mingles with Muslim ministers (Koya and rosy are the only ministers with clout). In parliament they sit behind him, at the constition day celebration they sat with bai and khai while the second class minsters sat elsewhere. Khai only has lunch with them. So much for Khai to be a champion of anti discrimination! It is also difficult to imagine how the 8% odd Muslim population today occupy 90% of the most influential positions in government, state owned enterprises and other state institutions. Unless the Muslims are extradionarily talented, there is no explanation for this. The most critical criteria for getting government jobs and contracts today is to be a Muslim. Apparently, Victor doesn't know all this or he has some agenda.

Survivors tell of horrendous atrocities committed by Myanmar's military ( Rohingya warn of another ' Sebrecknica 'in Myanmar, Aljazeera 8/09 ). In response, in a pattern of lying, the Myanmar military claim the Rohingya have been burning their own homes and leaving. Yes, and the Jews had themselves marched into the Nazi gas chambers!
Close to 200,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh and live in subhuman conditions in refugee camps.
The Nobel Peace Prize winning iconic leader for democracy and human rights Aung Sung Suu Kyi remained silent for two weeks . This too has been something of a pattern with Aung Sung in regards to the persecution of the Rohingya.
But this time international criticism and pressure has not allowed her to get away with that politically expedient stance.
The Rohingya are said to be the most persecuted people in the world . It's an irony that they live in country that has one of the most admired international icons of peace, democracy, human rights and justice.
That's such a crying shame.

Rajen, it ever makes you wonder why there is problem in every country that muslims hav migrated? whereever muslms go, they only create trouble by trying to impose their belief on others. The rohinga muslims instigated the current war by attacking a buddist monk. They are now trying to gain international sympathy and probably refuge in other countries. This is similar ploy in most countries. They instigate trouble, play victim and seek refuge in another country where they freeload and destroy that country. Muslim countries don't take them in as they know that stupid western fools will fall into media trap and take them as refugee. Fiji is with kaiyum has started to experience the instigation of trouble in Fiji. There is only certain amount of patience that anyone can have. For had natives, that patience is on the very end of a exploding bomb. If one plays with fire, they are going to get burnt. Rohinga muslims and Fiji muslims should learn to stay within the boundaries of entitlements. Trying to force anything more is asking for trouble. Rohingas are in self destruction mode and so is Fiji Muslims led by kaiyum. Sooner or later, the end chapter for both situations will be written.

UN has said ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims is happening in Myanmar ( CGTN, The World Today 12/09 ).
The UN wouldn't say that without the benefit of having factual information on the atrocities being perpetrated by the Myanmar State against the Rakhine people, would it?
I personally prefer to be guided by what the UN and international human rights watchdog groups say in such situations.

We read in ' Uphold Constitution ' ( Fiji Times 7/09 ) that Fijians were reminded to uphold the supreme law of the land - the constitution.
That's nice.
Who are the people doing the reminding?
What is their own track record in upholding the constitution?
Begin at the beginning : The 1970 Independence Constitution and the trashing of it following the first military coup of 1987. Then the 1997 Constitution and the trashing of it following the last military coup of 2006.
Who were the people who showed complete disregard and disrespect for the country's supreme law of the land - the constitution?
How many of these self-same people have today adorned themselves in the garb of democratic respectability wearing the label of "Honourable " this and " Honourable " that and proclaiming their loyalty to upholding the constitution?

Sanjay you are spot on. ASK brought on the sectarianism into our community with jobs for his boys. Most of those brought in by him have been abject failures and yet ASK has not been held accountable by puppet FB. The classic case of course is that of Abdul Khan, appointed by ASK and sanctioned by his puppet Bai. He was appointed as both Chair of the FSC Board and CEO of FSC and he was not the first one appointed as a Chairman of a Board and concurrently CEO by the wrecker and know all ASK. Abdul was the answer for FSC's ills but with no expertise on sugar, brought in from NZ by Kai. It is known Abdul Khan was on a salary of $800,000 a year and was getting bonuses as well from FSC, a failing company. On the top of this he looted FSC. ASK Yogesh Karan. Yet Mahendra Reddy is facing a trumped up charge, a farce and Abdul is sent laughing to the bank and to his personal company enriched through FSC assets. Ask Yogesh Karan, the two faced bereaucrat and Permanent Secretary of Everything about choro Abdul. Karan has been speaking about the mischief and thieving by Abdul and boasting how he will throw FICAC onto him, but too lamu sona to tackle the big bully boy, ASK. Karan is taking the credit for Abdul's demise and talks about how Kai was so allergic to his advice on Abdul. This case shows the mockery of ASK's legal system.
Fijileaks once was a voice for the trodden and the voiceless after FB-Nazhat Shameem coup. But you will notice his discreet shift towards Fiji Sun type mouthpiece for ASK. What is the deal here? Most reliable sources close to Qorvis revealed that Fijileaks is now not only on Qorvis payroll but that ASK has promised to go easy on Victor if he wishes to return home from his refuge in UK. Not So!
The 2014 elections was the first shift away from Dictatorship to Democracy, the fact that we got lost in transmission means there's more work to be done but, participating provided the first opportunity in 8 years for those opposing the coup perpetrators to punch a hole in the side of their armory and start being heard and the parliament, imperfect though it still is, provides a platform for opposing views to be heard. The right or wrong of participating can be argued when the government finally changes.

after noticing kaiyums political game in fiji, i remember an old indian saying of "muh pe Ram Ram, bagal mein churi". kaiyum has used this very expertly and turned hindus against hindus. hindus are cutting their own kinds throat, making fun of their own on blogsites and participating in openly crucifying other hindus at other opportunities. muslim on the other hand are bound by the brotherhood kinship and defend other muslims despite knowing that they are doing evil. the reason why islam is a growing religion and hinduism is being spat on is because hindus not only fail to take action but join in by condeming their own religion wheras muslim will go to every extent to defend their teaching no matter how evil it is. the about turn by fiji leaks and victor lal in particular is eye catching. incase victor has forgotten, it was kaiyum who treated russel hunter like an animal and deported him. your claim to being a higher being and against coups are all shallow now

Reddy is no intellectual, He may be a Hindu by birth and for show but he is a very jealous and vindictive person. He leaves a trail of destruction wherever he goes. From USP, FNU (see how he Liu Muri Dr Ganesh Prasad) and now at the Education Ministry. He succeeded in alienating everyone to do with education from the Ministry and from his party. It is karma that finally caught up with him. That it is Muslims to be the ones to put him away then so be it, He had it coming for a long time

The serious anti Muslim comments on this blog is a cause for concern. Lets get some facts out there before all this gets out of hand. Islam is not a race. It is a belief system which is really a hybrid version of judasim and christianity and the Quran is basically a 90% copy of the old testament with Mohammed inserted in it. Fiji Muslims are Indians who follow the islamic faith. As a former Muslim i still associate with and know a lot of so called Muslims. Most i repeat most no longer support ASK and some simply despise him. Yes a lot of Muslims voted for FF in 2014 but so did 38% of the kaiviti christains and about 80% of hindu Indians. So why are we blaming one group for the power that FF has. Fiji Muslims form about 8% of the fiji population hardly a threat to anyone. ASK is a Muslim and thus naturally has Muslim freinds. He is a paranoid human being just as all dictators eventually get and thus surrounds himself with people he thinks he can trust unfortunatly most of these folks tend to be people from his circle of Muslims. Fiji Muslims are not like any other in the world as their is no history of them doing any wrong in Fiji. Most just want to live and die in peace. It is very dangerous to start bringing religion in to politics. Yes we must unite and defeat ASK
This election is no longer about Bai the stooge. It is about defeating ASK. Instead of making ordinary Muslims the enemy how about getting them into the fold so that we can hand FF a resounding defeat.
Talk to ordinary Muslims and see where they stand before passing judgement. I was in a taxi recently and had a lively conversation with the driver who is a Muslim and by god did he despise ASK.
All is not what it seems.

Dimant kumar, you have made a very correct observation that the muslims will defend their kind regardless of how wrong their actions are. To test this hypothesis, just go to any political forum on face book and you will see ALL muslims defending khaiyum regardless of how wrong his decisions and actions are. This is quite typical of muslims the world over and thats why they are usually accused of defending terrorists. As for Victor, he is a Christian and I think we look forward to him proving us wrong that he is not part of the abrahmaic brigade.
