THREE men are still traumatised after they were forced out of their vehicle, beaten and held at gunpoint along Vunakece Rd in Namadi Heights on Wednesday afternoon.

Seci Kiviti, 52, Uraia Pomau, 41, and Vuli Vakaloloma, 42, were returning from a farm next to MH Superfresh in Tamavua about 3pm to pick a spade to help them build a shed for their aunt's funeral at Tikaram Rd when their vehicle was chased by a four-wheel-drive with three men inside.

The three said they were stopped, forced out of the car and made to lie on the road. Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed they had received a report at the Samabula Police Station on Thursday afternoon.

She said the report they received was that the three men were held at gunpoint on Wednesday afternoon. "Investigations will commence," Ms Naisoro said. The men said they also lodged a complaint with the RFMF. Land Force Commander Lieutenant Mosese Tikoitoga said he would not comment until investigations were completed. He said the officers who received the report would not be able to release any information.

"They will conduct their own investigations, interview the people, they will write a report and will submit it to me," Lt-Col Tikoitoga said. Mr Kiviti was still in shock from the incident and demanded an explanation. "When they told us to lie down, I refused because they did not say or mention anything about any operation," Mr Kiti said. "I was so scared when one of them took out a gun and pointed it towards me while speaking in iTaukei language saying: "Dou va davora i ra, ke sega biuta i tuba nona mona' (make him lie down, if not put his brain out)".

One of the victims said he identified one of the men to be a military officer because he was his schoolmate at a prominent all-boys school. Mr Pomau said 10 minutes later, another vehicle arrived with four officers of the Strike Back team. A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said he ran outside when he heard the men shouting. "When I came outside, I saw three men lying on the road with a man standing next to them holding a knife."

Three youths, who were cleaning their compound, rushed to their house when they saw one of the three men beating up the victims was holding a pistol. Mr Pomau said they were lucky otherwise it would have been a double funeral for their family. He said the men later apologised after realising the three were on their way to a funeral when they were accompanied to the venue.

Nobody got hurt.

A few bruised ego's and a story for the Fiji Times.

Nothing to see people.

Just the QRF getting done for tailing the wrong people out of the Kabalu / Nasinu/ Tamavua/ Tamavua-i-wai forest area where there are teams working on the ground verifying Intelligence feeds.

Move on.

Try it, you just might sleep better.

This country sleeps better today because guys are on the job, contrary to the sorry state of affairs in 2000 and 2001 when the country was terrorised and pillaged because some who should have been "on duty" were busy "engaged away from their posts" whilst others had abandoned their posts and relocated themselves to Parliament at Veiuto to participate in the carnage.

What's QRF?

Unacceptable and unjustifiable state of affairs...

@ of course

1. The civilian coup of 2000 was only a veneer, the Fiji military was involved up to their necks and now pretend to be the 'saviour' of Fiji. Money talk and BS...?

2. So how about the years between 2001 - 2006 after the military returned to the barracks?

You see, you don't fool anyone but yourselves for the world has seen how you armed crooks created a so-called national emergency just so you could catapult yourselves into positions of power in order to enrich yourselves.

Sad clowns worshiping money.

1. The military of 2000 is an entirely different beast to the military of today. The military of today has been purged and cleansed off the sickness that led to the events of 2000 and all that ensued thereafter.

2. The years between 2001 and 2006 saw the downgrading of the RFMF's international standing as incessant politicking, backbiting and bitching became the predominant past time at the Officers mess.

By 2006 Fiji had a mere 185 to 200 men deployed internationally as the reputation of the RFMF hit an all time low and its trustworthiness for deployments lost.

3. The UN has as of this year asked for additional troops from Fiji. There are now 1000 men deployed allover the world and the UN, with the endorsement of the Security Council which includes the US and the Russians and Chinese, has asked for an additional provisioning of 1000 more troops for Fiji deployments.

That will take Fijian deployments internationally up to 2000 troops in the coming few months.

If anything and endorsement of the renewed vigor that has been inculcated into the new RFMF with new professional officers, a new philosophy and new values.

In the Golan Heights there are now 10 RFMF officers posted to the Headquarters command.

The reason for the "renewal" as you call it is that they have no one else to do it. No one is stupid enough.

Lies Lies and damn statistics. You must work for Qorvis

Fiji's international standing has never been lower. What rock have you been living under. Qorvis propbably told you it was a penthouse.

you guys should be setting up your camp in sinai and Golan instead of Fiji far far away where u cannot rape our people and country.

You're sidestepping the issue. The question was "how about the years between 2001 - 2006 after the military returned to the barracks?"

Did the nation sleep relatively well under the responsible leadership of the widely respected Police Commander, Andrew Hughes?

The last 7 years since the coup of Dec06 has seen a false peace covering the entire country, under your rule of the gun, instead of the much desired genuine peace and freedom that comes under a genuine rule of law and respect for human rights. That much is crystal clear to everyone.

So what is the matter? Are you lot so insecure that you can't let go of the reins of power?

It's obvious to us that you all realise you're not winning the hearts & minds of people, given your draconian laws and bullying tactics aimed at those who see your unjust-enrichment philosophy for what it is...

yes what happened ?

There was no return to barracks after 2001. That was an illusion.

The reality is the RFMF officer cadre were courted and wined and dined by the political echelons who had their own designs on power.

The bitching and backstabbing which happened in the Officers mess emanated from influences that entered the officers mess from without.

The net result is the mutiny of 2000 planned and initiated by none other than the SDL party through their Party President, the Qaranivalu and supported in no small part by funding from politicians linked to the Itaukei enthonationalists.

Hughes presided over the establishment of drug transhipment and logistics and manufacturing supply zone in this country. The largest methamphetamine factory ever uncovered in the world was found at Laucala Beach Estate. The drug triads were able to set up a company through the Fiji Trade and Investment Board, obtain Government approvals, obtain Suva City Council business license approvals, obtain Visa's and work permits from the Immigration Department, obtain customs import clearance for drug making equipment (pill press) and chemicals used in the manufacturing. All done under the nose of the SDL Government and Hughes.

The factory was only uncovered because a New Zealand Drug Intelligence officer conducting surveillance on two Hong Kong drug dealers in Auckland listened in on a conversation at Auckland airport where the talk turned to Fiji and the factory being set up here.

Otherwise it would not have been uncovered at all, such was the laxity of systems under Hughes

He also has the dubious distinction of being at the wheel when Fiji had its first double execution at gunpoint in the Suva port area at Wailada.

Its a record which speaks for itself, unfortunately.

Since 2006 there have been no drug factories set up in Fiji. There have been no criminal gangland executions in Fiji. And there have been no bloody mutinies leaving the country traumatised.

And even the UN recognises that to the extent that the professionalism of the new and revamped RFMF now speaks for itself internationally with the ingoing deployments.

When all is said and done i.e. when you've exhausted all excuses my friend - my point still stands...

"The reality is the RFMF officer cadre were courted and wined and dined by the political echelons who had their own designs on power.
The bitching and backstabbing which happened in the Officers mess emanated from influences that entered the officers mess from without. "

So I understand that was also happening in the lead up to the 2006 coup with Khaiyum & collaborators. Care to shed more light on that?

too true. don't bring ur UN medallions into the discussion. no wonder u thugs are all mixed up. that's ur job defending nations, not destroying nations. what gives u any right let alone expertise to decide whats good for the people. u thugs go overseas and follow orders. that's what thugs and blockheads are good at especially when the opposition is unarmed.
in Fiji u follow the orders of the government and not give orders. get it right thugs and Fiji will go forward. that's a fact. proven many times over since rabuka shoved his gun up the peoples noses.

Much has already been said/written about the implications of Fiji's military linking up with the Russians who are strong supporters of Syria's dictatorial, tyrannical Assad regime.

The majority Syrians are sunni muslims who had wanted a peaceful change for a more representative govt, when they first rallied for a peaceful change in govt. two years ago. They were naturally embued by the contagious Arab Spring that started Tunisia. I mean, who wasn't with them (at least in spirit) during the Arab Spring of 2011 cheering the Arab world on! Oh boy, I was so there with them! I was so proud of them esp. in Egypt.

I think it is totally unchristian (speaking of the majority-christian Fiji military) as well as it so un-UN (for a peacekeeping mission) to side with a dictatorial regime whose denying Syrians their God-given right.

Why can't the world allow Syrians to evolve as the walk-smart Egyptians did and are still doing - ousting the radical and religious extremists amongst them. That's democracy going from strength to strength. Whatever happened to relying of God's Providence and believing in the goodness inherent in human beings? Hey genuine muslims even told their Egyptian christians not to participate publicly at Tahrir Square because they feared the Islamic radicals and muslim brotherhood would retaliate and vent all their anger on the minority Egyptian Christians - which has already being widely reported with the burning of churches and violent attacks on christians.

Just last week, a Coptic christian priest, an Egyptian himself - was shot at point blank by a member of the muslim brotherhood. So sad when you think that christianity had well-preceded islam in Egypt.

Back to Fijians snuggling in bed with Russia. Is that because Putin happens to be a strong orthodox christian? What a farce since the supposedly 'strong-christian" Putin recently divorced his wife of 30 years (civilly) and rumour has it that he was trying to commit her to a loony-bin so that he could justify marrying his mistress. The evil macho man...

The orthodox christian tradition upholds the sanctity and permanency of marital vows that is also based on Christ's teachings: "A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become ONE flesh” (Gn 1:27; 2:24). (wooileii! take note @ fellow-Fijians: Only UNprepared fools rush in where angels fear to tread). For Jesus then commanded in the New Testament: “What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder” (Mk 10:9).

Ultimately, Fiji's involvement supports the continuing unjust enrichment for the vested interests who are well out of harm's way.

May God Bless Fiji and all our soldiers currently serving in volatile middle east.

Did Khaiyum court the RFMF pre-coup 2006 ?

If you have substance (material) to support that allegation then produce it.

None of the officers and Military Intelligence men involved in the planning and prep work in the months and weeks leading upto and/or execution of the 2006 coup d'etat will be able to shed light (or elaborate) in that issue either (including those who have left the military) precisely because it is not true.

UN, not Russia
14/7/2013 04:27:31 pm

The RFMF are wearing blue berets on the Golan. UN colors, not Russian.

Not for us to judge the rights and wrongs of what the Syrians have done.

However my personal view is that they made a strategic blunder in choosing the path of violent insurrection. Machiavelli wrote a long time ago in the Prince that it never turns out exactly the way you imagined it would, when you set out on that path of violent insurrection against a leadership and its wrongs (imagined or otherwise).

And the reason is obvious (common sense, perhaps) you cannot make a mess of your home and expect that to be an amicable and peaceful resolution to a dispute. Throwing the pots and pans and smashing the windows and trashing the sitting room and every other room in the house does not and will not resolve the source of the conflict. And that regrettably is what the Syrians are learning today.

As for President Putin and his Mrs Putin, that is a personal choice of theirs. Its between Putin and God. It is not for us to judge.

ROFLMAO @ 'Nothing to see here'.

Tell that to the UN Security Council who might be already very nervous about the real colour of the berets Fiji's troops will wear when the illegal & treasonous Bainimarama has been selling his nations allegiance to China and Russia and the regimes new thinking of mercernary exports could be stopped in its tracks with all this unnecessary armed bravado.

Most important of all is that the US now presides over the UN Security Council.

In Matthew 24, Jesus’ disciples asked him “What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?“ To which Jesus told them of events that would happen just before he returned. So let’s see how close we are.

The first sign was “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.” Since the time of Jesus, many new religions have sprung up with their leader claiming that he was sent by God or that he had a mandate or message from God. Sign Fulfilled.

The next sign was “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.” There have been many many wars and especially with the last two major world wars some people thought it would be the end of the world, but it wasn’t. Sign Fulfilled.

The next sign was “There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” We have certainly had famines in many countries, and especially over the past few years many more earthquakes than normal. Jesus said that this would be a sign that was similar to the beginning of birth pains, and you know what happens next when that happens. Sign Fulfilled.

The next sign was “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.” Now whether Jesus meant the Jews or the Christians doesn’t matter, because both have been persecuted and put to death. The Jews have been more hated than Christians over the years, but lately Christians are being targeted as well. Sign Fulfilled.

The next sign was “At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.” There are currently only 32% Christians in the world. Yes, many have turned from the faith and don’t believe in God anymore. And we have had false prophets start new religions and cults and even say that the world would end on a certain date. Signs Fulfilled.

The next sign was “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.” We have lost our compassion. Things matter more than people do. Money is king. Porn is more fulfilling than a loving caring relationship. It’s all about ME. Sign Fulfilled.

The next sign was “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” For centuries, missionaries have carried the Gospel message to the whole world and are still doing so. And in case someone was missed in Revelation 14:6 an angel flies over the earth proclaiming the gospel to every nation, tribe, language, and people. Sign fulfilled and to be again fulfilled as a reminder to all.

The next sign was “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.” When the Antichrist sits in the temple in Jerusalem and proclaims himself to be god, then the end is very very near. Jesus warns them to “head for the hills” because “For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.” This sounds pretty bad… Not Yet Fulfilled, but when it is, it’s just before when Jesus returns. As he said “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive..” This is when Jesus returns and stops all the madness, throws the banksters into the lake of fire, and establishes His Kingdom on Earth.

From this analysis we see how close to the end times fulfillment of prophecy we really are. As Jesus said “..when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.” It’s time to get right with God because He’s coming back very soon.

Lomana, those signs were there just before the first world war and the second and when rabuka did his coup and franky too.
your preaching style is impressive but is it justification for these three guys being terrorized and beaten up?
and for the relaxed army officer first posting...no one got hurt...what is that?? so it would have been wrong if they got hurt...and was that a picture of one of these guys being hurt??

Well of course that doesn't justify it (never should).

Undeniably it was a mistake. Regrettably it has happened.

Apologies rendered (maybe compensation in due course).

But that should not blunt the resolve of the Security Agencies in doing the work which needs to be done in ensuring that the country is not destabalised in the manner which happened in 2000 when the Counter Revolutionary Warfare Unit of the Meridian Squadron engaged in Revolutionary warfare operations on Fijian soil

it is obvious that Fijians will never get a grasp of the rule of law and the Westminster system of government.
