HUMILIATED AND LEFT BEHIND WITH THEIR LUGGAGE
Picture
LABOUR leader and former Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry and his wife were this morning  (8 January) stopped from travelling overseas  on their diplomatic passports.

Mr Chaudhry maintains he should be entitled to a diplomatic passport as a privilege accorded to former prime ministers. Mr and Mrs Chaudhry were issued diplomatic passports in May 1999 when he was elected prime minister and have ever since used it for their travels. In a statement issued after the morning’s debacle, Mr Chaudhry said:

“I was informed by the Manager Immigration at Nadi Airport that they had been instructed by the Foreign Affairs Ministry to confiscate our diplomatic passports as I was no longer a Minister and that this was a new policy.
I then contacted the Director of  Immigration Mr Nemani Vuniwaqa who was sympathetic but said he was unable to assist as he was under orders to seize our passports.

I find the reasons now advanced by the officials unacceptable considering that I had notified both the Permanent Secretary for Defence, National Security and Immigration and Director Immigration in writing on 15 December 2014 of my intended travel and requested their facilitation.
The Permanent Secretary replied the next day saying that they were liaising with the Director Immigration to facilitate my request.

I was therefore, surprised at the new turn of events this morning as no one had ever before raised the issue of the use of diplomatic passports by us.

I think there is more to it than the use of diplomatic passports. If such were indeed the case, common courtesy would have dictated that we be informed of this new policy with a request to return the passports.
This was not done. We were led to believe that our travel would be facilitated and then the blow was struck just before we were due to board the aircraft.

But again, in the first instance the Assistant Immigration Officer told me that I had been cleared to travel but that Mrs Chaudhry’s travel would have to be cleared by his superior officer.

We waited for almost 30 minutes before being advised that both of us could not travel on our diplomatic passports which they had instructions to confiscate from us.

I don’t know what games they are playing but it will certainly not deter me from getting to the bottom of this matter,” Mr Chaudhry said.

Fijileaks: We know how it feels to be humiliated by DICTATORSHIP! Russell Hunter had only $20 in his pocket and the clothes on his back! These former Government colleagues of yours don't give a damn whether one has $20 on him or $2million in one's bank account! He was deported on board flight FJ 911 to Sydney and you were unceremoniously off-loaded from flight FJ 911 and left behind with your luggage at Nadi airport!

Serves him right. He has no right holding on to a diplomatic passport,. He should have returned it when he ceased being a minister. He knows the rule.

Fijileaks:

You call Qarase and Chaudhry, both elected Prime Ministers, deposed by Military leader Bainimarama. Both were subjected to politically motivated charges to remove them from political scene.

Who appointed the police, DPP and courts after 2006?

Were these agencies of State independent?

Who are the beneficiaries of these two PM's convictions?

Laisenia Qarase was the biggest beneficiary of the 2000 coup. Subsequently, the bigot was successful in having himself go into the books as the most racist PM ever of Fiji, and probably also one of the most racist leaders of the world ever.

Rajesh Lal

Your hero Mahend did not complain when the regime, of which he was illegal Finance Minister, ignored the court order and deported Russell Hunter out of Fiji after Fiji Sun exposed his millions

Now, you are defending him.

In the eyes of the law he stands convicted so he must not have a diplomatic passport

Full stop!

Iam not a fan of this daaku Chaudhary But I want to ask this government through this fijileaks, why Mpchaudhary was allowed to travel on this passport till 2014?
Why sudden change of heart last week?
Has Khaiyum designed another law overnight regarding diplomatic passport?

This type of attempt by this government makes thinks look fishy where Chaudhary plays victim

Surrender $2m Ex PM

Rakesh Lal,

It is my understanding that former Prime Ministers DID NOT have ANY jurisdiction to call upon IG to amend 1997 Constitution illegally but being politically motivated and one man one vote hatched by Mr Chaudhry and FLP and equally illegally supported by Qarase.

Beneficiaries of Chaudhry's conviction is Chaudhry and his family... As for real beneficiaries, the Court still has not ruled on who the real owners of those funds were.

Did someone say Aiyaz is working on this due to public interest...and that is why Govt orders had led to confessication of passport ...!

Poor Russel Hunter... you paid a far worse price that Chaudhry and there were no sympathy coming from MPC or from NGO's.

Chaudhry should surrender the $2m to the victims and then go back to claim his diplomatic passport.

"Humiliating". Yet they managed to get someone to take a pic and pose with their sorry faces, replete with luggage. Someone tell Papa Chaudhry to stop milking public sympathy. It was all sold to gather his A$2 million.

Bina pendi ka lotta

FLP dictator Mahen Chaudhry once portrayed himself as strongman and fearless crusader of Indian rights and democracy, champion of the poor and Mr Clean. This helped him get elected to parliament, become PM, and siphon of millions of dollars raised in the name of the poor.

Following the 2006 coup, Mahenwa changed his stance. From coup victim, he became coup supporter and illegal finance minister in the Bainimarama regime.

It was a strategic ploy to deflect investigations into secret Australian Bank account and collect fat salary as minister. It also enabled him to deflect investigations into the missing millions and secret bank account, and get rid of the likes of the nosy Russell Hunter and Victor Lal.

After getting a deserved kick in the arse from the regime, Chaudhry reverted back to his former role of champion of democracy and media freedom. But voters were not fooled. When his true colours, were exposed he got another deserved kick in the arse by voters.

Now the Chaudhry is portraying himself as a pious victim, and a wronged man who is bravely fighting on, even using his wife, whom he has betrayed for years with Asha Lakhan.

Enraged by the FLP's rejection by Indian voters, Mahen junior, aka Rajendra Chaudhry, started spewing anti-Indian venom on his Facebook page. He is followed by Fijian racists who support and endorse his views.

This is what is referred to as 'bina pendhi ka lotta' in Hindi. It means no principles, neither here nor there, opportunist of the highest order.

It is an apt description of the Chaudhry clan.
