I'm not surprised by news of this poaching of union members. You see since the Bainimarama takeover it is not only politicians with damaged reputation doing the dirty on the people of Fiji. You also have disgrace unionists and corporate crooks plying their dirty trade in that political landscape.

O’ why…for crying out loud… are Fiji’s worker unions so divided??

Unions should supposedly be under the banner; ‘United we stand and Divided we Fall” and/or the universally; ‘Workers of the World Unite’.

Today’s Unionists (Attar, Felix and others) have a lot of explaining to do to the workers of Fiji and also to the Unionists of the past whose struggles and sacrifices have led to the formation of some formidable unions and ‘unionism’ in Fiji. It is indeed very sad to see your pitiable little egos working against the basic tenets of togetherness of unionism, bro(s).

Togetherness like our Democracy is on Holiday, bro.

The new Leaders of the proletariat are bourgeois, platinum class. Each a don of their of mini mafia-dom, aspiring politicians, always busy, whizzing around in their union issue Pajeros, Prados and BMW SUVs, attending important meetings which usually entails spicy batak chasers with JW of the blue, black and double levels, bought duty free, being frequent flyers, business class, to Brussels on important union business, learning beliefs of various shades of grey which has totally negated the ‘historical’ outta the philosophy of ‘historical materialism’ of the communist manifesto and worshiping only the ‘materialism’.

Marx to them is a song written by Don McLean and Revolution is something that happens in Syria.

Incorrect to say "Revolution is something that happens in Syria". They were simply stooges funded by mafia thieving governments of USA- Saudi-Turkey to disrupt PEACE for self richness. It took principled Russia to block their greed.

Do not forget OUR DEMOCRACY would not have been F...kd if Unionist like Chaudhry and supported by then puppet Felix did not manipulate democracy in the first instance.

When the ex-unionist was losing leadership to Tupeni Baba (2001), the cry baby bastard ran to President and pleaded to illegally dissolve parliament so to RAPE DEMOCRACY brought by 'Girmit Centre Refugees' and so to find time to secure his position.

Likes of Ratu Mara was winning so he remained Leader of his Alliance Party for 17 years until he lost.

But likes of Chaudhry, a union leader of NFU who kept losing would not vacate the leadership in FLP, thus definition of democracy under West Minister System that Fiji follows has been a FARCE for a very long time now.

So well said Rustam. Reminds me of the days of our University when we could lynch such union leaders. You see, i have a handful of workers of my own, and so far no one has even tried to unionise them. The problem is that none of these chaps like felix, dan, attar, agni, ever try to understand the plight of our workers. For them unionism is a job which should earn them a lot of money. We need a different breed of unionists - smart, intelligent, brave, and a habit of walking the talk.

In politics it's said there are no permanent friends, only permanent interests. It would seem that is also true for unionism in Fiji. Union leaders motivated only by their parochial interests. And that's a real shame because Fiji today needs Union wallahs to STAND TOGETHER more than ever before in its post colonial history to guard the rights of ordinary workers against a pro- capitalist dictatorial regime . But quite frankly I'm past expecting the trade union aristocracy in Fiji to transcend their narrow, selfish interest for the common good.

Editor,
Municipal Politics and Corruption
We learn from LAHT 20/04 article ' Brazillian Mayor Touted as Honest Arrested for Corruption' that mayor Ruy Muniz was detained as part of investigation into municipal corruption in Monte Clearas. Muniz and city Health Secretary Ana Paula Nacimento, among others, are accused of sabotaging the operations of the two public hospitals in MC with the aim of benefiting a private care facility " de facto owned and administered by the mayor, his family and his economic group", Brazil Federal Police said in a statement.
Conflict of interest, holding public office and promoting private personal or parochial interests is a perennial problem in politics.
We are familiar with THAT problem in Fiji.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

They are all touted as honest, honourable men until they get exposed as bastards doing the dirty on their own people.

Read the last paragraph of Attar Singh’s FICTU’s communiqué to its affiliates. How is it any different in tone from those of our dictators –Aiyaz and Bainimarama?

The workers have and should exercise their ‘freedom of choice’ in joining one or the other or none of these charlatans at all.

Felix Anthony is a product of Trips & Perks that kept him as a puppet of Chaudhry throughout his career. That relationship ended after his part in raising with Chaudhry questions about his $2million which saw his gang getting terminated from FLP.

Unions get funding to attend meetings abroad, hence the leadership buys loyality and chamchars is no different to Aiyaz and his chamchars.

They both are EQUAL as part of how it is done, hence a handshake without addressing FNPF issues before withdrawing complaint leaves Felix no wiser than his old master Chaudhry.

There is something so perculiar or evil about human nature when it comes to power and authority. Elected representatives and servants of the people morph into lords, kings and dictators. The language of respect, empathy and understanding transforms into commands, threats and intimidation. Promises are replaced with lies and distortions of the truth. National interest is subordinated to their personal or party interests. Personal wealth and remaining in power is treasured more than the hopes of a vulnerable and developing nation. Yes, Lord Acton was correct when he said, “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely” But why? Can we be an exception to that “rule”?

How can we ensure that our aspiring leaders are not potential monsters and dictators? How can we assess political candidates to filter out the thorns from the wheat? How can we train our children to be humble, respectful, honest, hard-working and never depart from those values and principles? What makes a man or a woman? What kind of a society do we really want to be? How can we go about constructing that society?

The 2013 Constitution is a FRAUD
21/4/2016 12:28:49 am

We have been systematically divided and enslaved by a ruthless dictator Khaiyum.

Khaiyum rules by his FRAUD 2013 Constitution and the illusion of equal citizenry (we all being Fijians) which supposedly transcends race and class. The dictator thus respects neither the cultural values of the indigenous people nor the reality of the exploitation based on class and gender struggles.

The self-centeredness (and greed) of our Union Leaders (like our Chiefs) make them easy pawns –to be used and abused- by the Dictator as and how he pleases.

The Dictator can only be challenged - by challenging the source of his Power – the Dictator’s FRAUD 2013 Constitution.

If you can provide effective and timely service to your members then you should be able to hold on to your members, otherwise workers should have the right to seek better services and terms & conditions from other unions. Additionally FICTU should dissolve itself and get back to the FTUC to rebuild one union umbrella for all. Workers must unite to give themselves a chance against the military backed regime of Bainimarama and Aiyaz.
