UPDATE: As revealed by Fijileaks, Vijay Naidu has resigned as Electoral Commissioner; instead of replying to us, Young tells Fiji Sun: YES!

University of the South Pacific’s Professor Vijay Naidu has resigned as a member of the Fiji Electoral Com[m]ission.

Commission chairman Chen Bunn Young  confirmed this last night.

He said: “He didn’t give us any reason to explain his resignation as an election commissioner and it was his own decision to resign from the post.

“He resigned last year on the 31st of December and if anyone wants to know reasons for his resignation,  then contact him,” Mr Young said.

Prof Naidu could not be reached for comment last night. Source: Fiji Sun

No Chen Bunn Young no need to contact Professor Vijay Naidu to get from him his reason for resigning as an Election Commissioner. Anyone with intelligence and integrity would be able to discern the reason . It's because the professor realised belatedly that he was being used as a rubber stamp by Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum to give his farcical Electoral Commission credibility. The Commission has no independence and it most certainly has no teeth. But that apparently is okay for public parasites like Chen Bunn Young and Larry Thomas and the like. Just freeloaders in for a good time.

If Professor Vijay Naidu had resigned " last year on 31 December " should you Chen Bunn Young as the chair of the Electoral Commission have informed the Fijian public that one of the commissioners had come to his senses and quit?
Why did you keep quiet about it ?
Why do we have to learn from Fijileaks that an election commissioner has quit?

Chen Bum Young didn't the people of Fiji have the right to know that one of their electoral commissioners had decided to say sayonara to the Fiji Electoral Commission because the shit had become Too Much for him!
Did you display a contempt for the people of Fiji by not letting them know?

Chen Bunn Young, would you care to inform the nation why was this resignation of Naidu kept a secret for some 8 months? Is it not a practice to advise the public by an advertisement in the public notice column of the dailies stating "This is advise that Vijay Naidu is not employed as a Commissioner in the Fiji Electoral Commission......".That also confirms that the Electoral Commission does not have any Indo-Fijian in the F.E.C. which you chair.Young you have actually opened up more questions than answers by hiding this information from the public until fijileaks first broke the story. You (Young) have proved what a puppet you are.Keep your job, mate your time will come too.

Editor,
The mention of Fiji Sun reminded me instantly of this Bainimarama regime newspaper when I read Will Hutton's piece in the Guardian today (16/08 ).. He wrote " I was taken aback in the last election campaign by the way centre-right newspapers abandoned any vestigial attempt at objective reporting. Their journalism was organised to secure the election of a Conservative government - and the social penalties and stigma for turning a newspaper into a propaganda sheet are now close to nil".
Just how true was that for the Fiji Sun in the elections in Fiji?
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Too late Vijay. Much too late.

If he thinks this resignation absolves him of his heinous crime of being party to the duping of Fiji via the sham elections, he is clearly mistaken.

The remaining commissioners are hardly worth writing home about either. They are dead weight on the public purse and were merely handpicked for the demographic they "represent".

I agree with Keep the Faith. vijay naidu will have to live with the stigma of propping up the dictator's sham " democratic " elections in Fiji. For someone who has a sociological background he should have brought a more critical mind to bear on what the crooked Minister for Elections Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum was doing. But the problem with Vijay Naidu is that he lets his friendship stand in the way of objective critical analysis. That is the last thing an academic should do. Vijay naidu wants to be Mr Nice guy especially with the Kailoma and Kaivalagi mob in Fiji who are only to happy to have a nice highly educated Kaidia side with them on their pipe dream of a new Fiji .

You have summed up the saga very eloquently "Keep the Faith". Its indeed too little too late for Vijay to disassociate himself from the group who have indeed perpetuated a massive fraud on the people of Fiji by being bai kai's puppets and lining their pockets. This failed lawyer chung ben young as the commission's chair is the biggest fraud of the century. To fool the Fiji public he goes to the high court to challenge another crook (saneen) about the so called "integrity" of the elections. he looses and yet has the temerity to be the commission's chair when that office is nothing by a charade of the bai kai regime.

no wonder people no longer have any faith in lawyers in Fiji.

Vijay Naidu NEVER lined his pocket through any position he has held. He is the kind who would gladly give the shirt of bis back to another. He did not associate himself with the Bai Kai regime to line his pocket. He made the grievous mistake of misjudging and trusting the dictator and his right hand man Khaiyum to do the right thing by the people of Fiji . He has to pay for his mistake with that stigma on his reputation. But it is wrong to say he was there for the money.

Yes, chen bunn young wanted to be smart. He went to court over Saneem decision to fool the people of fiji. The judge on the matter Kamal Kumar was former staff of chen bunn young and appointed to the bench while in young's firm. young wanted to look innocent but secretly worked for kaiyum interests.

If the whole thing was genuine, young should have resigned as the ruling indicated young has erred by not acting on time. what did young do to provide relief to candidates who deserved to be contesting and were unable to do so by youngs mistake?

Dont try to fool the public young. people know you lack integrity and are very much a kaiyum stooge.

Editor,
Nothing is fixed in stone when it comes to politics although the mob in power tend to think their hold on power is permanent.
Let me cite the Australian case to illustrate the point.
In today's the Sydney Morning Herald ( 17/8 ) Bert Candy writes in her letter : " As our nation falls apart under Tony Abbot's leadership, it's time to say it as it is. Abbot is a bigot. He is a social bigot, an economic bigot, a scientific bigot and a religious bigot. His bigotry is at the core of his political skulduggery, his determination to do and say anything to get his own way. It is behind his disastrous captain's call, his narcissistic belief that he is always right. It is why he chooses to use divisions, demonisation and fear as political weapons... As the product of the factionalism within his party, he is an aberration , undeserving of the high office he has been handed by warped fate. Our nation will continue to suffer under his leadership ".
Another writer Danielle Ecuyer (smh 17/8 ) wants to know , " How much longer do Australians have to put up with Tony Abbot as Prime Minister?".
In today's smh chief political correondent Mark Kenny provides a likely answer in his article ' Abbot faces 36- seat electoral wipeout ' if elections were held today.
There must be a lesson in there for the gang clinging to power in Fiji through devious means since their unlawful takeover in 2006.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Typical Fiji Snub, doesn't really bother much about objective reporting that even the Fiji Times gets slammed often for doing just that when its part of their job anyways.

Obviously the people have the right to know, its just a shame that the media delays the news sometimes that other "sources" beat them to it instead.
