USPGATE: While USP claims it doesn't have $2m to fix crumbling staff accommodations, it is forking out $120,000 to renovate the VC Rajesh Chandra's house and more to be spent; one perk for VC, another for staff

VC Chandra is again renovating his house. According to highly placed Fijileaks sources inside USP, 10 air conditioners are being changed - all new household items including vacuum cleaner have been ordered from Australia to turn house befitting 'An Indian Maharaja' in Fiji!

Editor,
Here's a piece dispelling the myth about how the rich get richer.
Robert Bender ( The Age 21/05 ) is right to point out the assumption that " private wealth derives from technical creativity and productive enterprise is laughable. As we see daily in our news a good part of it comes from corrupt practices in business and government, tax evasion, money-laundering and illegal drug trade and other devious behaviours ".
The news today ' Six top banks fined $US6bn for fixing currency markets ' (ABC 21/5 ) provides a good example in point.
We of course have our own local examples in the likes of Nur Bano Ali and the many others brought to our attention by Fijileaks .
Our own homegrown predatory sharks.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

My Indo-Fijian friend once told me that there's a myth in Indian scriptures that Indians are born with a stick. The stick is not to protect themselves but to pull other Indians who are progressing down. The current article proves to me that it wasn't a myth but a fact of life for the Indo-Fijian community. Only in this case, Victor seems to be born with a iron rod instead of a stick.

A simplistic view which takes no cognisance of the fact that many Indians get to the top on the backs of others and through wheeling and dealing . Some are outright crooks in the garb of respectability.
Fijileaks has provided a good many examples of them.

Wow! USP VC and President Rajesh Chandra lives in a house that requires $120,000 in us renovations, new vacuum cleaner imported from Australia and change of 10 air conditioner etc.
When Mahatma Gandhi died he did not even have a house of his own. He was living in Patel's house.
USP VC and President Rajesh Chandra is clearly a more accomplished man!

USP staff are overpaid, specially VC, can someone reveal his perks, no wonder he gulps cans of berry juice to keep fit and milk the coffers whilst the infrastructure is falling apart.
