WHEN IS A SUSPENSION NOT A SUSPENSION? SPEAKER Jiko Luveni says NFP MPs can't sit in her Parliament because the party has been suspended and yet Suspended Police Officer investigating ACP Brown!

* FIJI under Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum has gone to the dogs where his relatives, cronies, and appointees, are ruthlessly allowed to do whatever they want with stinking impunity. His nephew Mohammed Saneem, the dubiously elected Supervisor of Elections who did not possess the requisite qualifications for the SoE position, has suspended the NFP (and endorsed by Luveni who herself had cunningly resigned to become Speaker) for 30 days over a minor administrative blunder because of an accounting firm. Saneem had the option of issuing a warning to NFP and for the party to conform to his uncle Khaiyum's Political Parties Decree within a specified period but he exercised (was ordered to) impose the harsher penalty -  a 30 day suspension from Parliament.

* But look at the following case which is far more serious than NFP falling foul of some accountancy firm's registration status. As exposed by Fijileaks, police and army officers were involved in the rape, beating and death of the bank robber Viliame Soko. One of those charged is Police Superintendent Manasa Talala. In February 2015, the former South African Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald had suspended Talala with half salary from the Fiji Police Force and had ordered him (Talala) not to enter any police stations pending the court rulings against Talala who is charged with rape, manslaughter, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and preventing the cause of justice.

* Last November Groenewald was forced to resign and was replaced by Fiji's land force commander Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho as Acting Police Commissioner. Qiliho, a military pen pusher all his life, and with no experience of policing, brought Talala back to investigative ACP Henry Brown, triggering Brown's resignation who went on to make various allegations against Qiliho, Talala and members of the Investigation Team (see: http://www.fijileaks.com/home/hounded-out-assistant-police-commissioner-henry-brown-resigns-ending-30-years-of-illustrious-police-career-informs-qiliho-the-team-tasked-to-investigate-him-brown-are-facing-criminal-and-other-charges).
As we have argued elsewhere, Qiliho wants the Police Commissioner's job, so taking advantage of Khaiyum-Bainimarama's policy of croynism, made sure that Brown was out of his way - and out of the Police Force.

*BUT who will speak up in Parliament or in the Press about these two contrasting suspensions - NOBODY! For many in Fiji have become lazy sheep! And the Election Commissioners who rushed to run the 2014 election  - to bring "democracy" - have quietly slipped away - some comfortably hiding at USP, in legal law firms, and other institutions, producing future "clones" the art of running election for Fiji's dictators! What about the Fiji press? Instead of confronting Qiliho, they want want to shoot down Fijileaks: "Under belly:
Talking about Police officers, what’s the deal with a sudden influx of leaked documents to blogsites? Trying to undermine the new command?" Fiji Sun, Coconut Wireless, 4/2/2016; Fijileaks has obtained hundreds of secret police files and we will reveal the contents later!

SP Manasa Talala's suspension letter from Groenewald - not to enter any police stations until the court decides on the raft of charges against him

From Fijileaks Archive:

* The composition of the Commissioners Task Force team [tasked to investigate Brown] led by Superintendent Manasa Talala who together with another member Corporal Viliame Vereivalu are currently facing criminal charges in relation to Vilikesa Soko’s death in custody in Nadi. These charges were laid with other Police Officers by an Internal Affairs investigation when Internal Affairs Department was under my portfolio. How can a police officer investigate a senior officer when he is facing criminal charges in open court under my direction through Director Internal Affairs? * "The presence of Military Intelligence officers daily in the Task Force office also does not augur well for me, as these are the military officers I had ordered investigated in the ‘You Tube’ beating." - ACP Henry Brown to Sitiveni Qiliho, resignation letter

Fijileaks: Here is another example why Qiliho is not FIT to be Police Chief: "Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho confirms the man’s profile page has been copied, and the message on facebook was posted from outside of Fiji." NO, it was NOT copied and posted from overseas. The suicide bomber threat was posted by Kishore Kumar on his Facebook, and from INSIDE Fiji, and he claimed he was Qiliho's spy

When the dubious decision to suspend NFP ends the NFP members of parliament should withdraw from the farce of " parliamentary democracy " altogether to maintain some self- respect and dignity and as a protest action to expose the dictatorship for what it really is. By their participation they are merely giving legitimacy to the dictatorship.

Problem is; if they cease participation altogether, they will become irrelevant as a political party. Another party will move in and fill the vacuum.

Is that the legacy the current mob want to leave the NFP?

The answer is not to employ their well-worn and tired 'boycott' strategy, but to go out and win new supporters by them selling their message to the grassroots so as to get the numbers. That's what democracy is all about.

Tupou and Biman should stop acting like stroppy kids on the playground who go away and sulk because other kids don't wanna play ball with them.

The suspension is a good opportunity for the NFP to reflect on its participation in the farcical democracy designed by the Bainimarama - Khaiyum dictatorship.
Come on people where is your intelligence? Can't you see you are party to a farce?
Where is your self- respect?

NFP being suspended may obviously have benefits whatever it may be, and that infamous bomb threat by the way goes to show how some bold and daring fanatic would do anything to take out Frankie and AK-47 and other persons of interest they may be after.

What are the details...of this dicey legal opinion?, What is the basis or rationale of banning a political Party from its rightful place and participation in the Parliament - which the votes of the People empowers them to do so. Surely, the mandate of the People supersedes the provisions of an obsolete decree of disgrace.

Doing away with their remunerations is indeed, evil vindictiveness and infringes on their livelihoods of NFP reps and is against all good governance conventions and ILO conventions on employment rights matters.

Has the NFP received their own legal opinion in this matter and would they care to share the same with us readers. Why can't NFP challenge this decision through the courts...make an application even if it is denied.

Mohammed Saneen has made a mountain out of a mole, a mockery of representative democracy and (once again) a monkey of himself. Hoof! Hoof!

Editor,
The UN's top human rights man, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has travelled to spend four days in Sri Lanka amid concerns that the country's president is backtracking on promises to investigate war crimes. ( UN human rights chief in Sri Lanka over atrocities probe' BBC 7/02).
It is not uncommon for political leaders to do that - make promises then backtrack on them.
It is a political ploy to con the international community and world bodies like the UN and the Commonwealth.
It is good to know the UN Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Raad Al Hussein is not allowing the Sri Lankan mob in power to pull wool over his eyes.
We need people like that in world bodies like the UN who do not shy away from holding power to account.
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu
