The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has charged a Businessman and three Military officers for Bribery under Section 4 of the Prevention of Bribery Promulgation No. 12 of 2007.

Ajesh Sharma, Manager Sales of Buildex Marketing Limited is charged with two counts of Bribery alongside Waisale Sorokacika and Elazar Adrian Luciano while, in a separate incident, he (Sharma) was charged for one count of Bribery alongside Josese Radaniva Vusoniceva.

In the first incident, it is alleged that Ajesh Sharma, between the period 1st April 2014 and 31st August 2015, at Labasa in the Northern Division, whilst being Manager Sales of Buildex Marketing Limited, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, offered advantages to the sum of F$5,404 to Waisale Sorokacika, an Assistant Purchasing Clerk in the Accounts Section of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Engineers Unit, on account of Sorokacika’s performing an act in his capacity as a public servant.

Further to that, it is also alleged that Sharma, between the period 1st August 2015 and 31st August 2015, at Labasa in the Northern Division, offered advantages to the sum of F$600 to Elazar Adrian Luciano, an Accounts Warrants Officer in the Accounts Section of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Engineers Unit, on account of Luciano’s performing an act in his capacity as a public servant.

Sorokacika and Luciano are also alleged to have accepted the said advantages from Sharma without lawful authority or reasonable excuse to do so during the same periods.

In a separate incident it is also alleged that the same Ajesh Sharma between the period 1st January and 30th September 2015, at Labasa in the Northern Division, whilst being the Manager Sales of Buildex Marketing Limited, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, offered advantages to a total sum of F$9,906 to Josese Radaniva Vusoniceva, a Works Warrant Officer with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Engineers Unit, on account of the named officer performing an act in his capacity as a public servant.

Josese Radaniva Vusoniceva is alleged to have accepted the said advantage from Sharma without lawful authority or reasonable excuse to do so.

All the Accused have been released on strict bail conditions and asked to report to their nearest Police Station. Additionally, Sharma surrendered his travel documents to Court, as directed by Learned Resident Magistrate Waleen George when they first appeared before her on the 3rd of December, 2015.

We wonder whether there’ll ever be an official government response to this (reoccurring) Story, of this stinking CORRUPTION, on the part of our Prime Minister, Hon. Bainimarama, receiving devious leave pay of some $$F205,000-00!! (yes, believe it or not?) And surprise, surprise…. approved by the Regime Minister of Finance Mahendra Pal Chaudhary – who was part and parcel of the Treasonous Cabal then.

Would Fiji Media ever be so courageous to ASK Bainimarama a simple straight question –pertinent to this CHORI…??–

FICAC – come-on, bloody FICAC, if this is NOT Corruption then nothing is – Finito!

Saab Se Barkha Chor Tho Bainimarama Hai !!
Khali Naam Chor Nai Hai…… Pura ke Pura Chor Hai.

Bainimarama and Khaiyum the twin dictators of Fiji have taken the corruption ball game in the country to a new high, unprecedented level.
Credit must certainly go to them with appropriate rewards and awards for doing that.

Mahen Chaudhry used Indo-Fijians for his own political ends and line his pockets in the infamous donations scam and secret Australian slush fund, exposed through brilliant investigative work by Victor.

It is well know and accepted that in return for protection, Mahenwa joined Bainimarama regime as finance minister (dracula guarding the blood bank) and approved the illegal back pay. Yes, the same Mahenwa who built his political career by championing transparency and accountability, and attacking nepotism, only to appoint son Rajen as his personal secretary when PM.

Now his spawn, Rajen Chaudhry is trying to use indigenous Fijian to do their dirty work. Rajen became regime opponent only after his dad was sacked as finance minister, put on trial for tax evasion and charged. Before that, Rajen chamcha/puppet Lekh Ram Vayeshnoi described 2006 coup an act of god, with admonishment from FLP, which supported the coup.

When Mahenwa was fully exposed by Victor as an opportunistic, greedy crook, people's eyes opened. FLP took a beating at the 2006 election, and Rajen turned his wrath on Indo-Fijian voters and farmers. Since then this unhinged member of the Chaudhry clan has been trying to start a race war in Fiji with hate speech on his Facebook page and courting indigenous extremists, even physically cuddling up to para grass Adi Asenaca Caucau.

He has been constantly goading indigenous Fijians to rise up to defend their country and race, calling them cowards. he wants them to fight his war. Like his father, very talented at using people - apple hasn't fallen far from tree.

Like father like son. Both are users who think they own Fiji and people of Fiji owe them a living. I hope Victor you expose them for what they are.

In the " new" Fiji of Bai and Kai one thing new is the new crop of Indian business crooks following in the well trodden path of the old business crooks who still ply their craft of keeping politicians and military generals in their pockets.
The old pattern of corrupt political power play remains very intact in the " new" Fiji.
Remind me what was the Bainimarama coup about?

Everyone else to court but not Bainimarama or Khaiyum. Yet they are the worst corrupt people around. Thanks Mr Lal for exposing the truth always especially reminding people that Chaudhry was in on the dirty with FF from the start. Only when they kicked him out when he and his son started singing other tunes!!

Editor,
We learn from Reuters 18/01 that Gabon has recalled its ambassador to Paris after France's prime minister appeared to question the legitimacy of President Ali Bongo's election in 2009.
The latest sign of fraying relations between Gabon and its former colonial ruler follows a French investigation into the origins of the wealth of the Bongo family, which has ruled the oil producing west African nation since 1967.
Asked during a television interview on Saturday whether Bongo had been democratically elected, PM Manuel Valla said : " No, not as I understand it ".
Gabon's opposition disputed the election result at the time.
Mr Valls comment has spread like wildfire in Gabon and has further damaged Bongo's public image.
Could that be because the people know the truth - both about Bongo's election and the Bongo family's wealth amassment?
A familiar story only the name of the country is different...
Sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

Just in case the impression is created that this is exclusively or predominantly a phenomenon of third world politics allow me to correct that impression with this example from a first world democracy.
Australia's disgraced former Speaker Bronwyn Bishop is reported to be digging in to run again in the seat of Mackellar, despite calls for her to move on following Ms Bishop's chopper expenses scandal( the Daily Telegraph 20/01). Many Australian citizens have commented that Ms Bishop is reluctant to quit politics not because of her commitment to public service but because she can't imagine not having all the perks and privileges of political office.
Greedy politicians can be found in good democracies and rotten banana republics.

True, fund-raising guru and money-siphoning class act, Mahen Chaudhry, does not do a julab (involuntary passing of watery stool in pants) at the mention if FICAC.

Neither does FICAC strike fear in hearts of cronies like Khaiyum and Nalin Patel, causing them to soil the undies, simply because FICAC is an instrument to target small fry while allowing Bainimarama cronies cover to milk the system.

The Independent FICAC’s budget and as well as its lists of priority targets are entirely dependent on the Minister Khaiyum. The Minister also ‘happens’ to be their ‘chief guest’, rubs shoulders with FICAC employees and hands out ‘loyalty’ awards.

FICAC’s Independence bit is a bit of a misnomer.

There, the former FBC Con-Woman, presently Fiji’s Hon. Assistant Minister of Health, makes statement that forty “non-essential” medicines in Fiji have run out. Eh…?

What is it about Hon. Bhatnagar that reminds me of Donald Trump??... Apart from both’s missing intellect?

FICAC should charge Bhatnagar for looking like Donald Trump.

Military procurement section is full of corruption. It goes to highest levels including Commander. Frank used to get commissions from contractors and suppliers. Mary and her son also used to collect using Frank's name. The practice of shady Indians setting up companies and then getting supply contracts with military, PWD, Agriculture department was rampant during Rabuka time, inherited hi Qarase and then Frank. On tender, all will be ok, and prices will be competitive. But on supply there will be major short delivery and at times also no delivery at all. Money shared. Every businessmen dealing with these organisations know this and fully exploit this. Western Builders man was charged because Ali he refused to give the sum demanded of him in cut-backs - all are in court records.
