Chaudhry's present lawyer before the Fiji High Court Anand Singh once thought his client was "a daaku" (crook) and the secret $2million did not belong to him (Chaudhry) but to the Indo-Fijian victims of George Speight's 2000 coup; 'I think he is a chor (crook) and should be shown to be one...Daaku will forever curse himself for having left the money in Australia. He must regret not putting it in Hong Kong':
Anand Singh to Victor Lal, 21 February 2008

Court of Appeal to deliver ruling next week on Chaudhry

The three panel of judges of the Fiji Court of Appeal are expected to deliver a ruling next week on former Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry’s appeal relating to his sentence and conviction. The judges will rule on notice on seven grounds of appeal before the end of nomination day on the 18th of this month. Today defense counsel Anand Singh responded to the prosecution’s submissions made yesterday that the direction given by the presiding judge had a number of mistakes in the point of law. He added the conviction should be set aside for his client Mahendra Chaudhry and he should be acquitted. Presenting his submission yesterday, Singh said Chaudhry did not refuse that he had funds in Australia and the money was given as a gift and there was no contract made. Singh said Chaudhry also wrote to the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji and asked for an extension of time, so he could seek legal advice. He said it is not disputed that in this case the appellant was not an authorized dealer. Chaudhry can appeal his conviction and sentence however during the appeal process, the conviction and sentence handed down by the High Court still stands. Chaudhry was fined $2 million by Justice Madigan in May. He paid the fine on the 27th of June. It is recorded that he is ineligible to contest the 2014 general elections. It is a pity that despite so much evidence shown by Victor in his blog against MPC's ownership of money that the DPP failed to add into the case ownership of the money to be determined by Court.

It looks like Anand Singh was heavily involved in the pursuit of Mahend's secret millions, as we can see from the exchanges between him and Victor Lal

And now he is with Mahend, telling the court, the money was a gift to his client - Mahend - it is time Anand told us who gifted the money.

No worries Victor, This Daaku has sealed his own fate.

We all looked at Chaudhary with such admiration, respect and awe once. He was our Great Leader and amongst the very founders of Fiji Labour Movement, a contemporary of Doctor Bavadra. Chaudhary was ONCE a good man, a man of the people (and of principles) and a good Leader.

Only and if only –Fiji Today -had a Leader like his former self – Mr. Mahendra Pal Chaudhary – would we have far less to worry about – politically – meaning our INCUMBENT CHORS like AIYAZ of the “FRANKFART MOVEMENT” (an adopted name from Richard Naidu’s coined FrankFirst Party).

But what pity –that our great ‘Son of Indus’, has so fallen from grace that it is difficult putting him back together again. No testimony speaks loader than the one worded by Chaudhary’s own counsel. This Daaku is as good as DEAD but not for his MILLIONS alone but…

...His political SUICIDE was actually in joining the FRANKFART Coup in 2006 as their Minister of Finance. It was here that all his (BIG TALK) ‘principles and philosophy’ stood glaringly compromised (down the drain).

How could Chaudhary reconcile or indeed PARTICIPATE in the RAPE of ‘Democracy’ (yet once again) by the ‘barrel of the gun’. This is the most hideous of the CRIMES.

Is this the same Chaudhary that whole of Fiji (and parts of India) kept a Virgil for- for his safety and release -for his 55 days imprisonment at the hands of George Speight??

Hypocrisy has limits Mr. Chaudhary – And YOU should be tried for TREASON nothing LESS!

Every leader knows when to quit but MPC apparently does not know this
His time to quit was in 2000 when he could have retired as a.statesnan
But he has taken the entire FLP down the drain with him
Just look around do you see any quality people with FLP the answer is no and that speaks volume on MPC leadershi

Canada Boy is too right. chaudhry's leadership style is surrounding himself with sycophants.
Chaudhry portrayed himself as the 'Man of the People" kind of charismatic leader who wanted to serve the people out of altruistic concern for them. But the scoundrel has been filling his own pocket and enriching himself. We can do without that kind of leaders and leadership. Chaudhry is but one of that variety that has been flourishing in Fiji. There are many more.

Qarase as SDL senior member and advisor ands banker did advice Provincial Councils' for 2nd class shares and created 1st Class shares for himself and his collegues. He got charged and convicted 20 years later.

Chaudhry who promised refugees he will appeal for support for the camp when on his mission overseas, who did bring back support BUT transferred them all as his own LOOT into secret bank accounts in Australia. He is still FREE from that charge and enjoying the LOOT.

Then we have Frank and Aiyaz whose crimes are currently hidden awaiting proof. Will you vote them in to save hide their corruption?
