BITTER MATHS: Sugarcane farmers better off ploughing an acre every year after harvest and substituting with other crops to make ends meet!

31/1/2016

*Escalating harvesting and transportation cost close to $40 per tonne - 50%.
*Harvesting costs $25
* Transportation costs $15

* Balance $40 for fertilizer, chemicals, labour for planting, weeding
* Profit Margin of $10 per tonne.
Fijileaks: An average farmer with 100 tonnes harvest makes $1000 profit from a year's hard work. If you take out family labour then farmers end up with negative earnings. A message to farmers:  plough an acre every year after harvest and substitute with other crops!

Cane farmers plead for change in fertiliser price

Sugarcane farmers complaining about the cost of chemical used in sugar cane field voiced their grievances during a Talanoa session with the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at Koronubu in Ba.

A concerned cane farmer says the government should look into this chemical price increase.

“The government if they could subsidise the chemicals for sugarcane as well as where the prices of chemicals are really very high. I humbly request the honourable Prime Minister to look into this matter seriously so our poor farmers can benefit through the help of the government.”

Fiji Sugar Co-operation CEO Abdul Khan says the government has done everything to cater for the sugar cane farmers.

“Just on sugar cane industry itself, if you go back 5 years from now when you getting about $45 a ton, the cost of your fertilizer, the cost of your weedicides etc was about the same. From $45 with the help of government and through the various re structure that government has put in place is it went to 45 to close to $80 and the year before last, you got paid to close to $89 yet your cost of fertilizer didn’t go up nor did you cost of weedicide. So to make statements like that you really need to substantiate that. So the margins that has gone to the farmers is a lot greater now than it’s had been about 5 years ago.” - See more at: http://www.fbc.com.fj/fiji/37044/cane-farmers-plead-for-change-in-fertiliser-price#sthash.fu1gbFow.dpuf

The NFP's accountants who audited the party's accounts are Certified Practising Accountants (CPA Australia) but not members of CPP; what about the Government Whip Sudhakar and error riddled Companies Bill?

"I can certainly say that this draconian circumstances under which we operate has never, ever existed in the history of Fiji until this latest
coup maker was elected into power."
- NFP President Tupou Draunidalo

Fijileaks: The NFP auditors are members of FIA but they don't have the public practice certificate from FIA; Meanwhile, shouldn't the wannabe Ba lawyer and Government Whip Ashneel Sudhakar be reprimanded or even sacked for presiding over the hastily passed Companies Act which contains over 300+ ERRORS - now two local lawyers have been drafted in to clean up the legal mess left behind  by Sudhakar- 'Mr Mortein' - not to mention the thousands of dollars to be paid to the two lawyers!

As Aiyaz Khaiyum's nephew and Registrar of Political Parties Mohammed Saneem hastily reports National Federation Party to FICAC for investigation, it has emerged that the NFP's accountants at the centre of political storm are Certified Practising Accountants, Australia. In 2013, after the NFP was registered under Khaiyum's Political Parties Decree,  APNR Accountants (Suite 1A, FHL Properties, 41 Gladstone Rd, Suva) submitted the audited accounts for 2013 on behalf of the party and it did the same for 2014. Saneem (aka Uncle Khaiyum) did not complain then. Now they have lumped 2013 and 2014 together. The firm, run by Labasa born Ziya Khan and others, does auditing for many big companies and FRCA accepts it all. Saneem says NFP's accounts were not audited by an Fiji Institute of Accountants (FIA)  certified accountant - he means it should have been audited by the likes of Aunty Nur Bano Ali or Nalin Patel of G. Lal and Co. Documents obtained by Fijileaks reveal that on 6 January 2016, the accountancy firm wrote to Saneem as follows:

"Good Afternoon, Dear Mr Saneem, We refer to your letter dated 06/01/2016. In this regard, we advise that we are not a member of CPP (Fiji). Furthermore, we would advise that we are member of Certified Practising Accountant (CPA Australia). (Find attached CPA Certificate). Please do let me know if you need any further clarification. Kind Regards
Ziya Khan | APNR Partners | Accountant, Suite 1A, FHL Properties, 41 Gladstone Rd, Suva, Ph : +679 3307174 | +679 3307175."

As per decree, there is no requirement for the auditors to be CPP. As long as they are members of Fiji Institute of Accountants: "The accounts of every political party shall be audited annually by an auditor certified by the Fiji Institute of Accountants and shall be submitted to the Registrar within 3 months after the end of each financial year, who shall publish the accounts in the Gazette and in the media, and the costs of any such publication shall be paid by or recovered from the political party"

SODELPA MP Bulitavu to Brown: "You should return to Fiji and answer the charges levelled against you...we were abused under your watch"

31/1/2016

SODELPA MP Mosese Bulitavu says Henry Brown is a coward and he must return to Fiji if he has some b***s. He must learn the meaning of courage and try to conquer his fear. "We went through the abuse and threats under his custody but we used our mental strength and resilience to overcome it. He was suppose to protect us but became our oppressor but I have forgiven him even after he denied Jagath's [Karunaratne] claim in court. He [Brown] now has a taste of his own medicine and hope from now he will not treat others like s**t."

Picture
He told Chief Magistrate, Usaia Ratuvili that Brown had said to his officers that when his beaten up black and blue, Karunaratne would not know what to do. Karunaratne further claimed in court that Brown had also said that he will be hung upside-down by a telephone wire and he will not be sitting as he is sitting. DPP lawyer Lisiate Fotofili then put to Karunarate that he has fabricated these things but Karunaratne maintained that he was threatened and intimidated by Police officers while in custody.

The Graffiti Trial Update: 'This Court finds that State has not been able to establish beyond reasonable doubt that the Police conducted themselves fairly. The Accused' have raised reasonable doubts as to their treatment'

Chief Magistrate Ratuvili: "The Court therefore finds that the [caution] statements were obtained voluntarily however the Police acted unfairly therefore the statements are not admissible as evidence..." The Chief Magistrate ruled that the State failed to produce cell records, meal records etc, and that they could not rebutt the accused persons allegations about ill-treatment, hence he ruled that they acted unfairly...The second Accused [Bulitavu] was asked to sign parts of his caution interview over 2 years after he was interviewed and charged. It is considered by the State that this is irregular..." -

INJECTING POISONOUS CORRUPTION IN FNU (Medicine) SELECTION: Parents and students scream favouritsm after the rich and connected get in with lower marks; Fijileaks sources say a dentist's daughter GOT IN!

When daughter's GPA was not even near 4.0. In order to get into FSM there is a cut off mark, e.g. MBBS and Dental will only accept students with a foundation GPA of 4.0+ and a Form 7 result of 350+. There are students who are getting places who don't meet the cut off mark when their GPA is below the cut off mark. But those students with higher marks are not getting the places. And in their effort to hide their corruption, FNU is avoiding giving anything in writing - driving deserving students CRAZY!

“Unlimited Tamaashaa” - The rot continues as Ian Rouse has resigned and left, with Kafoa at large - one of many post-coup UNTOUCHABLES - and its no laughing matter!

And Education Minister struts around with Bainimarama with IMPUNITY! Grog-bowl rumours of his resignation seems to be UNTRUE:
